2 piece rear main seals on LA engines. What brand do you use? What brands of this seal should i stay away from? Kinda prefer to do this job 1 time when engine is out of the car, and not have to mess with it again.

Thanks
Matt

Put them in offset from the main cap mating surface about 1/4 inch and the Felpro orange or blue silicone either one is good.

Pretty sure that's what comes in the sets anyway.

Ok thanks guys.
I pieced out a gasket set for my 318 build thru rock auto. I had to do it this way as i needed 360 headgaskets and 360 intake manifold gaskets. Both are felpro permatorque, as is the rubber valve cover gaskets. The rest of the gaskets are Rol. The problem i ran into was the rear main seal. There were like 10 different brands. Felpro included. My total from pan to intake, and exhaust was $45 plus shipping from 2 different locations came to $60 shipped.

I think thats a pretty good deal on all name brand gaskets. What do you think?

Any factory rope seal. Car Quest uses Victor and the last bunch I bought was theirs. I use lip seals for some stuff, but if seaps or leaks can't happen - use rope.

I like to buy the whole rebuild gasket kits from mancini racing and they have everything to rebuild the engine.

For $61 - $74 for a complete kit, you can't go wrong, and then you have the extra gaskets in case you need them later. They are fel-pro/federal mogul with the permatorque head gaskets...

Or get a refresh kit with main & rod bearings, rings, and a complete gasket kit for $200

Here's the other options for refresh kits:

I do agree on the rope seal, but the person REALLY has to know what they are doing and why for it to come out right.
Either that or a quick study. :D
