"Some time ago" I bought a brand new shop vac. This is a departure for me, most of the rest have come from the thrift stores. WHAT A POS!!!!

The switch was cycled about 5? times? and failed????

The top won't stay "latched" to the tub with the plastic, uh, ....."latches" meaning you cannot pick the damn thing up by the handle on the motor unit, as the tub remains on the floor!!!!

I don't know offhand what model it is, but it looks like this one here

See if this works found another photo LOL

I have had a Craftsman 16 gallon for over 20 years now. Its main job is keeping the dust out of my blasting cabinet. It does other things when I need it. It has never failed once.

Yeah, stuff aint what it used to be.
Kinda like me and the wife. I cant pick her up anymore either, latches or not.I think if I tried, at least one of us would leave something on the floor, too.

This. The older Craftsman vacs, are great.

You are a brave soul, sir. If I even BEGAN to think something like that, my wife would slap me upside the head before I finished thinking it.

You better not let her in here then.lol
Weve been married for 38 years now.WE aint spring chickens anymore, and WE know it.
When my wife slaps me, its either cause somethings stuck in my throat, or .....my hand slipped.

Sorry to hear that your vacuum sucks... Er, doesn't suck... I mean, you know what I mean....

did you but it from lowes ? I bought a 22 gal. air comp. from them, biggest piece of sh-- ever. same thing w/ a big bench vise, won`t buy big tools from them again-Chinese junk!!
at least sears Chinese junk is a little better.

did you but it from lowes ?.

If not lowes, then a similar "big" box store. I realize this is a "consumer" goods, but I at least expect it to "pretend" to operate a few times

Not to hijack the thread, but hey, someone mentioned Lowes. Remember when they(and Home Depot) bragged they had retired plumbers in the plumbing dept. and retired electricians in electrical etc.? Now they have the girl fired from Walmart, and the former Acme cashier? Just sayin...

:wack:Lol, seen this before!
I bought this gem around 1990 from the local ACE. Actually, I got this one (same model) in exchange for one I bought a couple weeks prior that started shooting sparks out of the motor.
This one has trouble staying together. If the thing is running and you pick it up it stays together. When not running it's hit or miss whether the bottom falls off. This problem since new but I needed it for the job I was working on.

Picture not showing up, might it look like this?

That's one of my biggest complaints about a lot of products these days, including all these new electronics.
Seems like we have a ton of tech, but almost all of it barely even works like it's supposed to.
And that includes car parts and appliances.

We always wanted a new front loading washer and dryer and finally got a set.
Two years later the damn drum in the washer just breaks off it's rotating assembly, and I find while looking into possible replacement parts that this is a common problem with front loaders.
To top that off the replacement part cost just about as much as a whole new washer.

Then we finally buy a new "smart TV" (everyone in our family and even our own kids have new flat screens) but this was the first new TV the wife and I have ever had.
It keeps dropping the internet connection every half hour, so whatever we are watching fails and shuts off. (we dropped cable TV and went to Netflix and Hulu Plus because we got sick of paying 100 bucks a month to see all the bullshit drug commercials and then lawyer commercials for the what the drugs did to people.
The lack of quality just blows anymore.

Same here, I think this is about 25 years old. I installed a new $2 on/off switch about 15 years ago, have accidentally left it outside in the rain a few times, but it just keeps running. It has always had really great suction, almost too much in some cases. Might keep your eyes on craigslist.

Got the big one for the garage and bought the Ol'lady the little one for the house and both have operated flawlessly with lots of usage. They both came from the Kingdom of Wally, I have another big one in the attic I picked up at a yard sale for 5 bucks, come on by and it's yours.

Same one I bought in 93, still going strong, used alot..

Post 12, Im with you TB.
I bought a new Maytag dishwasher,a couple of years ago. Last month the touchpad died. It cost me 1/3 the cost of a new machine and shipping extra. You remember the Maytag commercials of yesteryear, with the lonely Maytag repairman, with nothing to do?
I call BS
Then I found out Maytag aint Maytag anymore. Whirlpool (IIRC) bought them out. Just for that, Im boycotting the both of them. Ptouii

The problem is, that doesn't exactly bring better results, because nobody else is better. It's as if it's a conspiracy. "Let's all get together and agree to build over priced crap, and nobody can do anything about it."

Those "who know me" know what I'll do. I'll just figure out a way to screw a big ugly box onto it somewhere, and put a third party switch on there. I might just write a REAL nasty letter to the corp, for all the good that will do.

I got one of those too! from Lowes! biggest waste of money ever! Wife bought as a X-mas present and I didn't need for the longest time. Went to use it, and I'd like to say it sucks, but it damn sure doesn't.
Trash!

Yep. All the Shop Vac brands suffer from the POS push button switch. My work used to buy Shop Vac, 20 to 30 a year and every single one of them have bad switches. They've been like that for over 10 years that I know of.
Rock the off button while pushing the on button at the same time.

Just like the Toro Ultra blower. Best electric blower ever. Till the shaft bearing fails. and after 8 units, I know. Before you go there, work pays for them thankfully.

Take it back for a refund.:wack:

The refund rules are changing as the quality goes down.

I bought a joystick from a local chain for one of my favorite airplane games (which I almost never play games) but this one was old school biplane dogfights.
The rudder control was non functional so the right rudder wouldn't work at all.
(rudder controls was why I bought it in the first place)

Took it back and the people at the store told me "NO refunds on software".
I told them the software was never opened because I always download the latest drivers from the manufacturers website.
They said "no, we call the joystick itself software, and there are no return on software".

I'm like WTF?
I tell them to plug it into a computer and see what windows says, it says "Found new hardware"
Not just MS products but ALL operating systems find "NEW HARDWARE"
They absolutely would not budge on it, and also told me there were no managers on site to talk to about it.

Well, I took my brand new broken joystick outside and stood in front of their door explaining to everyone who was going in that any computer hardware they bought there was considered software by that store (not anyone else) and that since they call it software they will not refund for broken or non functional peripherals.

What do you know, three (THREE!) managers come out to threaten me about being on their property and how they can call the police and have me removed.
I tell them to go ahead and do it, so they did.
The officers showed up and asked me whats going on and I tell them while stopping mid sentence and asking them to excuse me a minute and still explaining to people going in.
I was surprised about that part, as I figured they would put a stop to that first thing but they were very patient and polite about being interrupted and let me keep talking to people about the return policy the store had.

Occasionally I would tell them I couldn't understand why the store would have a problem with someone pointing out their own return policy unless it was going to cause a problem with the customers, and if that was the case then the customers had a right to know in advance before they made the same mistake I made.

While the police were there one of the managers apologized and handed me a gift card, but I ripped it in half and threw it in the trashcan by the front door asking him why I would EVER want to have anything from that store again, and that I sure wouldn't do that to anyone I knew.
I thought one of the officers was going to bust out laughing, but I acted totally serious and calm about the question, and asked why I would do that to someone.

After about 40 minutes they very politely told me that they would be back in a 30 min or so to make sure I had left the property.
I was being polite and professional about it the entire time, and I got the impression that they agreed with me, but still had to do what the property owner wanted.
