I have been banned from using the washer and the dryer!I'll throw a load in and the next day throw it in the dryer after it drip dryed most of the way and I might remember to turn the dryer on eventually....my clothes always come out looking as good as when I put them in there but they sure do smell clean LoLI'm just gonna go out in the shop and git em dirty again. =)

This is a great thread ramcharger and although I am not out of work, I have read some valuable info here to remember for "life lessons". :thumrigh:

Memike......great stuff that I have never, ever heard before about ways to save on electricity. Using the washer and dryer at the same time is "automatic" and customary to me. It must have to do with the demand issue like you are saying......hmmm

Cool! You finally got the call you were waiting for and have set an appointment for a face to face interview. It may be with only one manager or in my case it was with a regional and a local manager. For some this is the easy part, for others not so much. :yawinkle: Bring a copy of everything you've submitted so far. The reason being is that you will most likely have to fill out your job history, home adresses for the last 5 years, professional references, etc for the umpteenth time. It sucks but it's just part of the deal.

The day before your appointment study up on the company via the web and what you will be expected to do. Most companies will have a "Mission Statement" posted on their web page. This is great information in regards to the general atmosphere of a given employer. After you have a good grasp on what the company will expect from you, think of what might be asked at the interview including specific "what would you do?" scenarios. It's a really good idea to brush up on your own skills too and goals for the next year as well. Write down your answers and study them the following morning. Not only does this help you technically but it will build your confidence and it will show you to be capable and relaxed.

The morning before the interview study up early in the morning and then go do something to help you relax your mind. Go for a run, walk, bike ride, work on the lawn, etc. The reason for this is to free your mind creatively and blow off some nervous energy. The last thing you want to do is sit around and stew. It'll make you nervous and you might lock up when being questioned. You want you answers to flow easy and sound natural and relaxed. You don't want to sound desperate, nervous or overly enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is good, but it's like sugar; too much hurts and leaves a bad taste.

Wear clean clothes appropriate to the job postion, shave, etc. Breath mints never hurt if you're a smoker. Greet your interviewers as Mr. or Ms., and listen to what they have to say. Be organized and have all your paper work ready to go in a folder or daytimer of some sort. It's much better to have any information directly at hand and be able to get for your interviewers instantly than have to say "Uh....Can I get back to you on that?". Plus, having that info right there at your fingertips breeds confidence.

Look look your interviewers in the eye when answering. Relax, it's not the Spanish Inquisition. Be honest and be prepared. If you know your job, it'll go great for you. :yawinkle: Ask questions about the work that you'll be doing, benefits, etc. At the conclusion of the Inquisition, be sure to thank them for their time and ask what the next step will be if they haven't already told you. Ask them for a business card, this will tell you if you have a chance. If they give one to you, write them an e-mail thanking them for thier time. If they won't give you a card, keep looking for work, that's a bad sign.

This concludes all the advice I can give and I hope this helps someone get a job and get ahead. :thumbrig: Good luck on your search and know that you are not alone. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks 6pk! What good is knowledge if someone doesn't share it? :bear:

Looks like I maybe Substitute Teaching will know tomorrow.....

My Dad, (G-D rest his soul) told me 2 things about unemployment:

1) If you loose your job, your new full-time, 40 hour a week job is finding another one.

2) If you cant' find work you are not looking hard enough. Flipping burgers is not beneath you till you find something better.

I think the crusty old bastard was onto something.

May fortune smile on us all. -LY

What if unemployment is paying $10 an hour and The Burger joint is paying $7.65? Do you take the Burger joint job?

Any way, The Manager for our group flew in from Az. yesterday, Today she gave everyone their paperwork with there termination date, and what they will be getting for their separation.
She didn't even call me into the office to talk. I'm a temp. Although I work as a full time employee, I get no benefits. I get no vacation, holidays, medical or dental ins. But I am employed by them. She could have said when my last day would be, or something.
Right now It's looking like July 3 will be the last day of work.
This will be the third time a business that I have worked for has closed.
It started in 2003 When Chevron took over Texaco. The Research Center here had at one time employed 1000 people, now the buildings sit empty.
Second was my Father in-laws Survey business. When the housing market took a dive, so did his business. He had to lay me off, close the business, and now he and my mother in-law live with me, and neither one have a job.
So now I'm getting ready to be layed off again.
Like you guys have said, keeping busy keeps you going.

I am now Substitute Teaching starting Monday............

Mopower,

Being a temp or doing contract work is a tough place to be. I hope you find something better soon. :)

64X2,

Congratz!!!!

This thread is an inspiration ... not only is it terrific advice freely given, it shows true character by your willingness to help others while you, yourself, are having a tough time. Kudos Ramcharger!!!

I personally had great luck with monster.com when I relocated from SoCal to Louisiana in 2003. Sure, it was a real pain and took several hours to get a decent resume put together, but it also resulted in 22 interviews (and later, five job offers once I got there). I know the economy then was nothing like it is now, but don't neglect those online job opportunities. Some have "agents" that will email you directly if your keywords match up with a new job posting -- let the perfect job find YOU.

Since my own business has seemed to go from feast to famine, I just updated my monster resume again the other day. Speakin' of networking, anybody need a great legal secretary who can powder coat on the side??? :-D

Thanks for all the words of wisdom Mr. Weiser. You're obviously well versed at what you do. And don't forget to add in the tips you gave me privately to stay inspired and keep your attitude upbeat -- everybody here in a similar situation can benefit from that as well. (I'm trying to anyway.)

Hey Leanna! How could I not try as hard as I can with this guy looking at me? I'm supposed to be his master and provider. I cannot let these guys and gals down!

This is how I first got him....
ScreenHunter_04Nov160131.jpg

If I can turn a dog around I most certainly can turn myself around and so can everone else... :)

Someone very close to me asked me "How do you keep so upbeat after all thats happened to you in the last year?".

I answered in the only way I can, and believe me, it 'aint easy and it takes WORK!! Lol! Here is my answer to the question....

Believe me, I didn't post how low I felt at times..... I was afraid I'd really bum everyone out and that is not what was needed on that thread... I've had to work very hard to stay in a positive frame of mind.

I use music to keep me up and stay away from the depressing stuff.

I switched the brew cycle on my coffee machine to "Extra Strong".

I talk to my dogs a lot, lol! I also give my family a call when I can too. Family always picks me up from the floor.

Lots of walks with the dogs always picks me up. The ladies always mention how handsome Merlin is. I'll take compliments anyway I can get 'em nowadays, even if they are aimed at my dogs, lol!

I have pics on the wall of my family from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I think "Damn...Life was hard as hell back then and I'm bummed? I got it easy and should be thankful".

I see the snow capped mountains on a clear day, kids playing, the taco cart guy walking and ringing the bell, ducks in the park pond, a hawk cruising overhead....

It's the little stuff that makes me smile and feel good to be alive. I've found that I just have to let go and leave my fate in God's capable hands. He can't help me if I screw up though and don't try to help others, even if I am emotionally "Tied to the Whipping Post".

I have to keep my eye on the prize and that is not the most toys, a great big house or 6 digit paycheck. It's eternal life in the company of the Almighty.

I CAN'T give up, it's not allowed. I HAVE to keep on truckin' and trying to help people. I don't know 100% why I'm still here after all the stupid stuff I've done in my life, but I do know that without Gods help, I wouldn't be, so the least I could do is try my best to live as he would want me too. It actually takes a lot of pressure off me, lol!

I was supposed to hear about a job Friday..... I waited.... and waited... 'till about 4 pm then I gave them a call. I found that the "higher ups" were on a retreat of some sort and they could not give me an answer until this coming week,,,,,Arrrggghh!! Lol! Who knows, maybe this just means that I keep busting my *** until my lease is up and I find a job in N WI. My Mother is still sharp as a tack at 87, but she's slipping a bit and needs some daily help.

I hate to sound as though I'm trying to preach.... But I'm letting go and letting God take care of business. :)

........Maybe I need to start a small business in N WI fixing small engines...Chain saws, motorcyles, jetskis, snowmoblies, plus computers, sell bait, etc.??????

Believe me Joe, I know all about that ... my 4-legged furballs of the meowing variety never hesitate to remind me when they've got the El Cheapo food in the dish -- and aren't one bit happy about it either.

I hate letting them down but, with 9 out of 10 jobs coming from FABO, if you guys aren't working, then neither am I. It'll get better. IT HAS TO.

It will! The dogs just end up getting ear problems with cheap food but they chown down as usual....it must be be the "strange" that they dig, lol!

Men are dogs and dogs are men,,,, :-D:-D

You do have some cute kitties! :) Poor guys/gals.....

Hello again Joe,
I still say writing of some sort is in your future......style is captivating :read2:

Good luck and thanks for keeping all of us motivated in these trying times. 8)

well today sucked I went it to pick up my paycheck and little did I know it would be my last. I got layed off and they are changing hours. this sucks. o well on the bright side I will have time to do other things, like work on my aspen. My boss told me that he and every one else likes having me there and it purely wasn't anything I did.

Thank you 6pk. That would be a dream come true. :)

I still haven't heard from a particular company so I'm going to put the screws to them tomorrow. If not, I have 6 more resumes in as of today.

Oh crap..... Sorry brother. :angry7: Get a good bottle of whatever if it's your thing, tie one on, and get to business finding another job. I'm in the same boat as well as bunch of other people here. It's not your fault and keeping a positive attitude is key to keeping your sanity as well as getting another job. :)

I don't know if you read this thread from the beggining but give it a shot, there's a lot of good advice from people other than me, lol.

I made up a new drink. It's Ron Rico rum (I can't afford Bacardi) and cheap King Soopers Black Cherry Soda.

I call I it the "Cherry Duster", lol. My Duster won't be "Cherry" soon but I can still dream. :)
