I've always thought that 1 piece rubber bushing on the end of the LCA strut was cheezy. The stock - later with 2 pucks seems better.....and the solid / adj. one are trick.

1) There isn't a tubular sleeve in the early A rubber like the later 2 piece type, is there? I think there isn't.

2) What is the prefered methd for making sure the rubber is "squashed" the right amount? is using a 1 piece OEM rubber?

3) should I just use the K7040 2 piece design for the LCA strut? is it that much better?

thanks

As I recall from my setup which had the one piece rubber bushing. There was no sleave.
When setting up the new two piece bushing there are two things to consider:
1.That you are able to get the torque to spec I thin it's 40 ft pounds
2.you want to make sure the bushing clears the eye hole for the cotter pin.

u need to use the 73 up strut rod for the 2 piece bushings...it's a bit shorter :)

I know there is a length difference, early to late rods. The later coarse thread rod is ~1/4 shorter. The K7040 says its the "Improved" design and a replacement for the early 1 piece types. It is different than the later style 2 piece ones that have the internal "sleeve" for 73 and up. The 73+ improved design is Moog K7068

Anyone use the K7040? Did you switch to the later shorter rods?

K7040 is all I have ever used, on early and late. I did not change strut rods.

I used the K7040 "improved" bushing and original strut rod in my 65 Dart. I don't notice any tendency to wander, as one might get if the strut rod pushed the LCA too far back (less caster). I don't recall an inner sleeve.

My 65 C-body does have an inner sleeve, I recall, and was always a 2-piece design (I think). Perhaps they moved that design to 73+ cars.
