Legal question about Antique vehicles and the seat belt laws

-
ABS doesn't like gravel, especially a transition from smooth pavement to gravel.

...and especially, especially, the specific type of transition that happens when a road construction crew has scraped off a layer of pavement and there is now loose gravel on the remaining old pavement.

Try it some time- Apply moderate pedal, like a brake check- Your ABS will freak out.

I do not believe that is true anymore. The exemption was removed a few years ago, the other night I was looking for a copy of a 89 Vehicle Code book that would have shown the exemption in it, the current one does not have it, I have confirmed this with the CHP recently.

All occupants, All years, no exception.

I talked to California Highway Patrol and they pointed out vehicle code 27315 section f which states seatbelts do not need to be added if they were not installed at time of initial sale.

I believe in seat belts for years, and will retrofit them into any older vehicle i own that didnt have them. My 67 barracuda came with lap belts, i am upgrading to modern 3 point shoulder belts with a pendulum lock type retractor. The big thing is anchor points. Location of, and strength of the reinforcements.

Seat belts are only as good as the anchor holding them in. Typically 1/8" plate steel with grade 8 nuts welded to the back sides for the anchor bolts put under the floor pan, B, or C pillar or roof structure that your anchoring to is ideal. This takes care of the strength.

As far as location , you dont want your shoulder belt to sit too low across your chest that it wont hold you in place in an impact, or too high that it cuts into the neck. Either one can cause injury in a collision. Cars with a hardtop roof can benefit from a shoulder belt with a lengthened sash and D ring arrangement to lower the belt to proper shoulder height and prevent cutting into the neck.

I purchased mine from wesco performance. Lots of options in colors, buckles etc. U.S.A. made. Not crazy expensive either for what they do.
