i am trying to learn about how i wanna build my next motor. had mine built and dont wanna do that again. so teach me about cams. i know how they work but not how the numbers work. and i know there is a lot of knowledge here so go ahead lol. thanks

And read up. It would be best and easiest to read through what Comp Cams has to say. In the beginning of there catolog (Paper back version) I have there is a good write up and explanation of cams. You should comtinue on to Crane Cams as well.

After you read up we will talk. Cam speak is confusing and cam selection is easy on a basic level, not worth a whole lot in getting crazy on street rides and low level strip rides. If you were racing for the money or just real serious on power, it would be worth looking harder at cams than most people do in selection.

They call cam sci. a black art and you'll start to understand why and why I'd rather you read up first and avoid arguments. misconceptions and mistakes. All are which are very easy to do and opions widely vary.
Arguments on points of veiw can differ quickly.

LOL, your correct about that! Most people focus on HP results on what a cam will deliver when it's a braod torque curve you should be seeking for your driver.
