Limiting centrifugal advance?

I have a "remanufactured" electronic distributor on my 318 and it gives the engine too much total advance (about 40* not including vacuum, maybe more). I took my dizzy apart and I see the part that is supposed to be filled with something in order to limit the travel of the weights. However, I tried soldering it and the solder just would not stick to the steel of the advance plate. If there is a way besides welding I'd like to know as I don't have immediate access to a welder...
 
There's a thread on here somewhere on how to do this, with pics even. I can't remember what the title of it is, but you may want to search around for it.
 
yea some kind od epoxy should do it..


here is an approx. slot size for a given advance.


6* - 340
7* - 355
8* - .375
9* - .390
10* - .405
11.5* -.420
12* - .435
13* - .445
14* - .460
15* - .475
16* - .490
17* - .505
18* - .520
 

DUH, why did I not think of that!!! Thanks guys, guess I'll go get some JB Weld and a file.
