Local Info for So Cal needed

I going to be in southern CA later on in the year, probably around late September, for around 10 days. Not decided on where to stay yet but would like to find some cruises and other local "petrolhead" entertainment.

Any suggestions?

there is an all mopar show in monteray not shure when but would be worth checking
also maybe mopars at the mansion

I've been reading about the cruise on Fridays in Escondido, anyone been? Also is the Big Boy diner still on? I'm sure I heard about Jay Leno taking the lastest Dodge prototype there.
