Well I went and looked at the 360 that i have been talking to this guy about. Its a 78 360 4bbl. Im picking it up for 200 bucks and figure it will be a good Learning tool, as i am more of a computer type than a mechanic type. Ill pick it up on tuesday hopefuly. He also found me a 904 to put behind it. Im tradeing him my 727 for the 904.

Needless to say i am happy now.

You got yourself a good engine to start on and for a good price. They are so plentyful that you can pick them up cheap, lots of High performance parts for them also.

I think the 727 would seal some of the HP from me.

THough i am new to Engines and stuff along this nature. I was also told that the 727 would be a hard fit in the 65 barracuda, the 904 would be a bit easyer to put in.

Please help in clarifing this for me..

to put the 727 in a 65 you would have to clearance the floor.... the 904 is a better choice... they are plenty strong enough and will give you atleast a tenth in the quarter over the 727.... just make sure you either weld the weights on the convertor or use the B&M flexplate for the 360/904 combo....

You can usually get the 727 in to the pre 67 car by hammering the firewall/ florr seem down.

That said I would go with the 904 any ways. Less horse power to spin and should be plenty strong behind most small blocks.

I would stay with the 727 strictly for strength. I would rather have longevity. I have had too many torque converter hub cracks with 904's.
But that is my preference. I'm interested in more than quarter mile at a time.

the 904 is plenty strong... i have a friend running in the 10's for years now on the same trans.... the thing that usually breaks the hubs on them is when guys crank up line pressure more then nesessary...

Thanks. Im not going to be 1/4 mile ing to much. its goting to be more of a Sunday/weekend warrior car.

Well Update on this. IM not going to be able to get it now. I need to move to MO and cant spare the 200 to get it. Oh well. Ill just build up my 318.

Stroke out that 318 to a 408  than it will be better than a 360. Than that 727 would be nice behind it. :thumleft:

Yes they do. And they can be bored probably .100 over. You just need custom pistons and away you'll go. Of course there isn't much available in the intake department for them but then that could be half the fun. No one is going to expect a 400 cube poly motor.

i think its a "A" im not sure come to think obout it. can anyone tell from these pic?

Another name for the A series smallblock is "POLY" which is short for polysphere, in reference to the heads. They're kinda like a hemi, as I understand it. Problem is the block is a lot heavier than an LA block.

Heads / intakes / headers are NOT interchangeable with LA engines. Good luck finding good intakes for that block.

so it is an LA cause those are the valve covers off of the orginal 273. Sweet that helps me a ton.

Thanks
