Low compression "build" and cruise rpm?

Let me rephrase, I would like to maximize the stock engine for now with a cam upgrade
“Rephrasing” suggests that that you’ve already stated the goals. You haven’t.

Additionally, you need to decide the gear and converter. The gear for cruising at 75 mph is just another opinion. With that criteria, I’d pick 2.73, maybe a 2.94. The converter, another opinion. The tightest 9.5” that Dynamic can make for you (2800) is what I’d get. If you are not willing to spend decent money on a quality converter, use a stock one.

Finally, your carb and tuning skills will play a large role in your how the car idles. The bigger the cam, the carb choice and tuning skills become more critical. Reread post #14 and #16.

I want a cam I can throw in my stock engine, use my ch4b intake, get a carb that will work well with said engine, either 3.23 or 3.55 gears, .020 steel head gaskets, and drive anywhere I want.
I will leave this with the Whiplash works and you will be very happy with the results based on this quoted statement of what you want. I would use an 850dp, it was the best of all the carbs I tried before switching to the tunnel ram. I like the 3.23 for any distance driving at 75mph.

Good luck and some of us have actually done it and are happy. Then when time and money allows, build something with better compression, better flowing heads and a cam that suits the new combination.

I’m just going to add that, any cam that’s enough of a step up from the stock one to justify the time/$$$ to even bother with the swap will need to have the factory springs upgraded.
