Lumpy Camshaft comparaison Help needed please

-

Just for comparison my 74 duster with big block that I totally gutted is 2800 with fibreglass fenders and trunk lid and seat. Under hood bracing is taken out. 1971 bumpers and brackets. Centreline rims and slicks and skinnies. Aluminum heads and intake. Kim

Mine started out with a listed weight of 2990.
IDK where I’ll don’t know where I’ll end up at.

Hi guys ! My duster is equipped my the 380hp 360 crate engine from 2002-2003 , absolutely love that engine , it as some miles and will need to be refreshed one day...i aquired a 300 hp version crate and wanted to recreate the 380hp version , * as you know its the exact same engine but with a different cam , springs and retainers , the 380hp cam is very nice and it as an incredible power band and sound but its not available anywere . Lemmee get this right;
you already have a 380 engine boasting 410hp, and are running at 2600 plus driver, and you want more power?
Lets say you are at 2800 loaded for bear, 2800/410 is 6.83 pounds per hp.
Is this a street car? ...... with street tires? I'm guessing Not.

He has a 380hp crate engine and a 300hp crate engine. He wants to cam up the 300hp to the 380hp spec. Make sense?

Why not?

Yes I got that, but he's rummaging around in the wrong cam books, lol
My Barracuda is at about 3650/430hp (by it's trapspeed in the Eighth) =8.5 lbs per hp and is already a heckuva ripper.
If it was me (a streeter) with a 2600 pound car, I'd just stick that 300hp engine in there at say 2800/310=9 flat, pounds per hp. She won't sound nasty but 9flat is still a heckuva ripper, as anybody with a 340/Early-A can attest to..

Yes its a street car and its modded to look like a street car too , i wanted a cheap tricked out duster since day one , all started back in 2006-2007 , the combo comes from a 1971 demon that ran 11.60 in the 1/4 mile with slicks and a mini tub , was running 4.30s , im 100% sure that i can do 12.00 flat with the duster and street tires , not the fastest but sure its very very fun and feels quick

I love the look of your car. The black steel wheels are perfect. You should have an aluminum set made and paint them black. Or did you already do that?

Wrong cam books? I don’t necessarily believe that. He’s apparently trying to duplicate something mother Mopar thought was a good idea. I don’t know a whole lot of 380 crate engine owners that think they’re pigs. Is it ideal? Probably not, like I mentioned in an earlier post that 380hp cam runs good but would be better with 10:1 or so. In fact I had a friend who did just that, (and Mopar did as well with the later versions) he cut the heads, put in thin gaskets and did some minor bowl blending and port matching and If i remember correctly he was knocking on the door of 10 sec time slips.

I've run the that MuthrThumpr cam in a 454 and it sounded great. I mean it trully sounded just plain mean and nasty. Other than that, it sucked, a lot. It made **** for power, wasn't fun around town. It does what it's supposed todo, sounds bad ***. Other than that, I'd never run one again. We switched to a milder mannered cam and picked up 75hp.

Ok back up the bus;
Apparently I said something that got you excited; what was it? Gimmee a chance to clarify.
Well @AJ/FormS , you did kind of disrespect the man with an insult. Follow it by not actually helping him or explaining why your thoughts are “rummaging around in the wrong cam book.”

@TT5.9mag That cam MP did in the crate engine did indeed lack some squeeze. I remember asking a bunch of local racers how they did with the MP crate engine. They all like it for a inexpensive bracket racer.

I’ve had the same experience. And a couple friends with that engine shared the same thoughts. Not a daily driver type engine but a good 50/50 bracket/street engine.

Wow. Never was a fan of cams that are designed for a ratty idle, instead of power.

I had wondered for a long while how that set up (360/380) would do supercharged/turbo’d. Considering the low compression (listed @ 9.0-1)
