Lynn’s Barrcuda rescue

-
I slept for a few hours on Friday night and left the house at 530 in the morning bound for Alabama. It is about a 12 hour drive so I made sure I had a gallo. Of iced tea, a couple of energy drinks and a couple ham sandwiches for the ride down.

It was dirty as hell from being in the garage getting worked on but luckily I drove through a couple downpours that cleaned most all the shop dust right off it.

By 630 on Sat Aug 2nd I made it to Alabama and a bunch of the family had heard about Lynn’s mythical Barracuda and that it was coming to visit him. So a some family traveled from as far as Florida to see Lynn and the car they had o ly ever heard about or remembered from when they were kids.

Once I got close to the house, I unloaded the barracuda at a parking lot about a 1/4 mile away so that I could drive it up to the house and straight up to the front door so Lynn could see it. Everyone could here it when it fired up from the straight pipe parts store flexible exhaust that I hacked together to make it work.

I drove the car up to the front door of the house and my wife had the door open so Lynn her dad could see it and hear it pull up. Connie his wife and my wife said it was the first time he had smiled in months. He was happy for sure and really loved how it looked.

Unfortunately, Lynn didn’t get to go for a ride in it. He just didn’t have it in him to get outside and in the car. But he knew that it was being treated with the love he had wanted for it. We lost Lynn Tuesday this week. He was good man. Retired after 20 years in the Navy. He was Mopar through and through. I’m wish I had had more time with him. But I’m glad that he was able to see his Barracuda live again. I’ll keep going with it Lynn and make it exactly how you wanted it.

Damn!

My most sincere condolences.

But you made him smile, and that’s priceless.

Thank you

I don’t think he knew how determined I was to make sure he saw it ride again. You stay till the job is done….
Yup.

My name here and avatar is for a good friend of ours, and like you I got the car running for him, and then delivered it. My wife has a video of me coming around the corner with his car, and right after that you can see Bazza’s eyes tear-up. I’ve never posted the video as it’s very private, nor will I.

But our “endings” are completely different, as Bazza survived his ordeal, and after two years of rehab is able to drive once again.

You did a wonderful thing here, and you have my deepest respect.

Thank you, I would have much rather handed him the keys and gave it back to him, but I will make it all he wanted it to be and my wife will be able to remember riding around with her dad as a kid when she drives it.

Got back home with the Barracuda at about 430 am this morning. Once I get the aftermath of a week long thrash cleaned up in the garage I’ll get back at the Barracuda, the TTI exhaust should be here soon and then it’s gonna be time to get the interior done and some other odds and ends.
