Mad with external regulator?

I am ready to start the engine bay wiring and have already done the MAD conversion in the dash with the correct wires coming through the bulkhead connector. I am going to use a maxi-fuse instead of a fusible link. I am considering keeping the stock alternator and external regular, just curious if any of you have done it that way. All input is appreciated, I am at decision time on the issue.

Sure it's OK to use the factory pieces. Have a wire around go from alt charge stud to starter relay stud, you should be done.
 
Thanks Rob, I think that is the best play for me. I have changed so much already and the new solid state VR's are so much better than the old ones. I am going to start the engine bay wiring before I install the motor, just not as flexible as I used to be----------------
