Making my race car slightly less of a race car

-
I saw a set in local classifieds that had 5 passes allegedly. 295 55 r15. That comes out to 28 x 10.6

What is everyone’s opinion on drag radials vs bias ply?

My car is quicker on radials, but they don't work on unprepped surfaces. They are either hooked or not, bias are more forgiving.

Between the Bias and the drag radial, the bias is favored for manual trans cars correct?

My car is automatic. I know a guy here (not mopar) that has a record holding radial tire car. He has ran a highest top speed of 248. My car runs about 110 in the 1/4. Radial tires should hold

I recently swapped to a radial on my car, car picked up everywhere on the slip.
My guess is you could ditch those much bigger bias slicks, add 100 pounds, and the car would still be quicker than it is now on a 275 radial. Maybe by a fair amount.

Ok I missed out on the tires on Craigslist so I may have to buy new. Looking at Mickey Thompson ET street in either the ss or r flavor. Who has experience with them. How much am I giving up going with an SS over an R.

what size wheel? radial tires are heavier. I like these M+H bias N50-15 tires, weight = 27 lbs. On 12" wheels , tread about 11" , section about 13" , diameter 28" , full footprint at about 25 psi

This “may” help. It the been there and done that should be sought out. First hand experience is needed IMO.
Drag Tires

I have 275 hoosier radials. Love them.
They are WAY lighter than Mickey’s.
My car ran 14 quicker with these over same size bias QTP’s

If I remember correctly my wheel is 10 inches wide. With the bias MT I launch well but it gets a little unstable at higher speeds. I originally started off at 14 psi and didn’t feel safe at speed. Felt the car wiggle in the rear at the 1/8 chased it for a second then lifted. Found scuffing halfway up the side wall where the tire rolled over. I Upped it to 20 psi and calmed it down on the big end a bunch but still a little pucker when I lift of the gas in the lights. One thing going with the radials I was looking forward to is the more stable feeing at speed. When I bought it he car it had 32 x 13 inch slicks. I changed them to 30x 13.5 inch slicks. Thinking 28 x 11 would be the sweet spot. It feels good when it launches but watching a video you hear the engine tone hesitate before it come on full song. Not a hesitation like a miss just feels like it could use a steeper gear , smaller tire, and or looser converte

I bought a set of these, they advertised them working on 10" rims. I let them down lower than 20 pounds, and they still weren`t flat on the tread. Jegs took them back , they woiuldn`t come close to holding big h.p. anyway.
They look good on ur car tho !

My old 73 dart ran 10.49 at 126 in the 1/4 with some 275/60/15 M/T ET streetDrag Radials. Had 15x8 weld drag lights with 4.5 BS. The car felt great on the big end. No swaying etc when you let off the throttle etc. I think my best 60 foot was only a 1.46. Car had a lot more in it but I sold it before really got to runing on it

I run the same # your car does with MT ET SS 255/60/15 15x7 rim 18 psi 1.67-1.68 60' Car is very stable.

I remember when you had that car for sale..... and it was cheap if I recall. Why didn't pursue it is beyond me....
Yes I sold it for 6,000 more or less they got a free car. Lol has around 6,000 in the engine/ trans. It was a great fast fun car. I even drove it on the street once. I wish I never sold it. But that’s life

That’s OK! There’s more MoPars to still get build.

Well I am trying lol. I am building a 91 Dodge Dakota to race and will be useing a magnum 360. This engine ran 11.24 in my friends extended cab 2 wheel drive Dakota. But the way I am going it’s going to take me a long time. Lol

I understand the long time. I have more projects and can’t find time to do any of them. I also have a 1968 Plymouth Satellite. About 8 years ago I spun a bearing and locked the motor up. I went out and bought a set of pistons and another block to build. I put it together about 7 years ago and it is still sitting on the stand waiting for a couple things to finish it. If I had time and a couple parts I could probably have it running in a weekend
