Help! Help! Help!
I have a Mallory Comp 9000 crank trigger distributor that was installed in my small block 382 when I bought my 72 Dart. The part number is 6529154. It would seem that I have the only one in existence! I’ve been trying to acquire a replacement cap & rotor for it with no luck. I called Mallory yesterday and their tech rep I spoke with was clueless. Couldn’t give me any information on it. It seems that this distributor was discontinued at some point. I called JEGS and their guy was far more helpful. He offered a couple of part numbers for a replacement cap but nothing for a rotor. Does anyone here have any knowledge about this particular distributor and where I might find a replacement cap & rotor? I don’t want to have to dish out $300-400 for a whole new distributor to plug into my MSD 7AL and ditch my crank trigger setup.

I would think any distributor would work for that purpose. All you are doing is "distributing" spark to the next plug in the firing order. Your crank trigger is providing the signal.

That's what I was thinking as well. Just find a more up to date distributor that has replacement parts available, take all of the innards out of it and run it the same as this Mallory. But I thought if someone might know where to get cap & rotor for this Comp 9000 I'd just keep it in place.

Give me about 10 minutes and I'll see what I can find.

If I can't find it from home, I have to go to town for a hair cut. I can stop in a shop in town and see what I can find.

MSD is worthless as tits on a hog. Just useless.

First off, if that is a complete Mallory crank trigger system, including the wheel, pick up and mounts I'd be interested in buying the whole thing.

Second, I've found what I think you need, but my info is a bit dated.

I can verify everything when I go to town. Here is what I found.

That is a 65 series crank trigger distributor (which you already knew) and it depends on what cap you have or want.

If you have the cap that is a large diameter with HEI ends, then you want a 29745 cap and a 29772 rotor.

I'll need to verify this and if you have a standard diameter cap I'll need check and see what the numbers are.

Give me a couple of hours.

And PISS on MSD for throwing away most every single Mallory part number there was when they bought them out. Just piss right on them.

Email or call Holley. I just got some info from them on my dads Comp 9000 for a FE.

Thank you!
The cap that's on the distributor now is the mallory 'crab' flat cap, which is part #211 I believe, but wanted to swap it to a conventional cap. I'd prefer a female socket style cap so I don't have to change my wires, but if the HEI style is all that's available then I'll go with that.

I'm running a MSD 7AL with the MSD flying magnet crank wheel and pickup. Gonna keep this set up for now.

Ok, so I did verify what I've found. If you want to get away from the crab cap (which I was never fond of anyway unless you really need it) then you want a 29745 cap and a 29772 rotor.

You will have to change the ends to HEI which is better. That's pretty easy as you should have enough wire length to get the HEI ends on there.

The only issue I can see is getting the wire hold down. I can't find a part number for that.

I'll keep looking but if I can't find a new one for you, I may have a good used spare out in the shop I'd send you.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: the wire retainer you need is a part number 29744.

All that type of stuff SHOULD be available from MSD as they told me from the very beginning that they were going to support the Mallory stuff as far as Unilte modules and caps and rotors and such for all this Mallory stuff.

Why on this flat earth they don't still make and sell the Mallory advance spring kit I can't say. That 3 spring pack they sell is a joke.

Awesome! Thank you very much! I’ll look up those part numbers.
