Manual Steering box adjustments

I bought a nos manual gearbox for my 73 Scamp. I see there are a couple adjustments listed in the shop manual, are these necessary on a new gearbox or just an old worn one? I don’t have the special tools listed to do the adjustments.

I would assume that's NOS is ready to run

Should not be needed on a NOS Gear box with
no wear. Top adjustment will take the play out
if needed. Test after adjustment to make sure
there is no binding when turning lock to lock.

Is this "new" or "rebuilt?"

You could always carefully mark the adjustment positions, then go through them and see if you come up with the same "answer."

With your fingers, run the worm gear lock to lock. It should be smooth and only have some minor resistance at the center point. If it's rough or binds, I would contact the seller and ask them what they would agree to have you do.
