I see alot of guys asking how to convert from power steering to manual but I'm doing the opposite. my wife would like to drive the fish too but the manual steering is difficult for her. I accquired a p/s box from a 66 cuda thinking I could just swap them and hang a pump, but alot of these threads indicate that the shafts are different lengths. I have a manual in it and I have a black column with what I think is from a manual so I assume I need to go get the shaft out of the 66 i got the gear from. Is this true or does it matter. It appears that the ps gear looks the same as the manual so why would the shafts be different
Any help or advise would be greatly apreciated.

Power steering cars have a shorter shaft, if you have the parts car available, take it all. You can swap the shaft & use your orignal column. Lawrence

Thank You VDART I will hafta go see if the shaft is still in that car. It doesn't matter if the parts car is a column shift and mine is a floor shift does it.

what i'm getting at -- is you have both assemblies--- disassemble the assemblies & put the cleanest items on your car & sell the old ones.
if they are both clean just swap the shafts & be done with it. Lawrence

The power steering shaft is about 3 inches shorter (the PS box is that much longer under the hood) , so if you used your manual column, it would be 3 inches closer to you in the cab.
