I would like to get my map light working. Originally wires were cut a few inches from the lamp plug and switch plug was totally gone. Is there a simple drawing anywhere of how it should be wired?

Year? Model? Go to MyMopar.com for FSMs, full wiring diagrams, or simple schematics for whatever it is.

if it's already bypassed/disconnected I would rewire it using basic wiring technique, in other words.. don't get all wrapped up trying to feed it back into the original wiring, it might be disconnected for a reason.. do you have the switch and the light?

I was just working on my 67 dart under dash map light.
Pink and yellow.

I would expect 69 is same or very similar

The bulb is floating meaning it is not grounded to the housing or the mount.

The pink wire is the feed from headlight switch. Yellow goes out to door switch to make the ground path when the door is opened.

It's a simple circuit. A hot all the time 12V fused wire goes to one side of the light socket and the wire from the other side goes to the door switch. Opening the door causes the wire to be grounded which turns on the light. There's also a ground wire going to the light switch which also will turn on the light when grounded (twisting the knob). You'll need a wiring diagram for your car to get the exact source of the power and the color codes of the wires, but, IIRC, it should be an 18 gauge pink wire coming from the light switch supplying the power to the dome (or underdash lights), and an 18 Gauge yellow wire going to the door switches and light switch operating switch connection.

69 Dart map lamp is not what you may think. The switch is just a manual on for the lamp

The lamp is normally controlled through the door switch’s. The manual switch allows you to ground the signal to the lamp so you can turn it on separately from the door switch’s. It is or can be a battery killer when used.

The ground signal from the doors passes through the switch in a normally closed pass through condition which allows the lamp to light when either door opens. When the switch is flipped it grounds the lamp negative wire, usually brown past the switch to case and to dash “groundl

At the same time it isolates the door switch’s and completes the path to ground for the lamp. It was designed such that when activated it only controls the map lamp as not to distract the driver. If you know if you have the A01 lighting option or if what dealer option may be installed it would assist in getting you the correct wiring diagram.

Oh, I'm sorry, I was thinking interior light, not map light. Yes, map light is a simple switch at the bottom of the dash frame.

Start by checking the switch, if it is a factory unit.

Check for continuity between both polls with the switch in the normal position. If good, then Check with the switch activated, one of the polls should read continuity to the case but not to the other poll. If so this is the lamp ground post. The other is the door switch “ground” yellow post. These failed regularly so check it first to help from being confused. If all is good then the next step.

map light working
Just so we are all talking about the same thing.

Are you referring to the under dash light that should come on when a door is opened it a light somewhere else that only comes on when a switch is switched?

IIRC on my 67 dart the under dash light is refered to as a map light but some times refered to as a courtesy light.

It comes on when a door is opened or when the headlight switch is turned all the way in one direction.

There were several versions. My A01 equipped fish also has a switch to control it. Most were just as you describe.

Here are the Three options. 69 Dart is the same as fish cars.

Figure 23 is the most prevalent standard map equipped.

Figure 24 is the Dealer installed "E-bay available" for non map lamp cars.

Figure 1 is the full A01 Optioned cars.

X1-16R is the red lighter plug in all.

Would you happen to have these illustrations available that you could send me? I am currently eyeballs deep in trying to figure out this mystery myself with my Wiring. Looking for the correct factory Wiring, and just looking for some reference pictures to help me out with identification.

Read the post. (Post 14). He posted the diagrams right there in the pdf.

It may have loaded to your download folder and you can open it from there.
