I would like to use the Heater Hose Connection (right side intake manifold) to install my Temp Gauge. I guess I'll have to take the Nipple out and put an Adapter in there. Can I temporarily just plug the hose with something? Can I plug it at the opening/closing switch? Does that make sense?

Is it mechanical or electric? I have my electric sender in a block drain, drivers side.

I'm only familiar with Autometer but their mechanical temp gauges have a long probe that may require an adapter/extension. Otherwise they may bottom out in the location you mentioned.

Street car or race car? At one time I installed a probe in the intake side of the bypass hose with adapters.

They make rubber caps for plugging connectors that normally use a hose, but I don't trust them.
I tapped and used pipe plugs in the water pump fittings if you remove all of the heater hose related hardware.

Street Car, I just realized that the Auto gauge came with a Adapter. Locomotion, what kind of probe

I have my aftermarket mechanical temp probe in my top radiator hose with an adapter. It works great. I can see when the thermostat cycles. It was on the car when I got it.

Some don’t like this setup, as it will not register correct temp if you lose coolant. But my factory temp gauge is still hooked up and works, so I am not worried about that.

Since there are no easy places to put a second sender on a factory engine, everything is a compromise or a cost. Pick your poison…..

The copper colored thing in the upper left-hand area.

In the upper hose or in the thermostat housing?

I suppose you could make a tube and split the hose and install the tube in there with a bung for the probe.

I’ve never thought of that.

It is in the middle of the upper hose. The adapter looks like a part you could buy. It is nicely made with hose barbs on the ends. If I had the car at home I would take a picture.
