Ok, I'm doing the brakes on the 74 Duster I got last month, the rotor on the pass. side has some grooves in it, & the guy at the parts store said he couldn't turn it because it was already worn down to .93 thickness. so how much can these rotors be turned down safely ? When I was in high school, you could get new rotors for 19 bucks, now they're over $60! I guess I'm just cheap.

The minimum thickness is stamped on the back of the rotor (hub area). You can use a micrometer to measure it yourself.

$19 rotors are usually from China....buy better ones if you need them.

I think .100 is all you can take off most rotors before they`re done. I guess it really depends on the rotor but don`t be cheap when it comes to brakes, spend the coin and get some new rotors. $60.00 is not bad, try finding a set for 68 B-bodies, OMG! It`s always better to be on the safe side.

When I had my BMW M3, I needed 2 new front rotors but didn't want to pay the $300 for a set.

I found a never turned, used set (OEM not aftermarket) on Ebay for $50.
