I was thumbing through the latest Chrysler Power and right there is a schmatic of an electronic controller box.

And some time ago there was a post asking what the 4 or 5 wires do.

I mentioned that I believed one of the pickup wires was grounded inside the box, well what do you know....

Check out the green circles!

That's funny I just found the same and was about to post the link.

Did you notice this one is a 4 pin box schmatic.

We could make our own boxes with modern and perhaps more robust componants

Can you trigger the box with points????

The way D1 faces the pickup coil can only be providing a negative to the transistor 60. If the reluctor and pickup are making an AC signal only the negative voltage it is producing is getting to the transistor, so would shorting to ground trip the box to fire?

They was bench testing that ecu without the case being grounded.
Makes me wonder if this case grounding that`s spoken about all the time here is really relevant
The tester is testing the componants in the ECU like a multimeter would. Not the function of the ECU.

In the schmatic there is one voltage in and one ground without either there would be not flow of current to trigger the coil.

A caveat, I would not but absolute faith in a patent diagram. That might be an early engineering prototype, or just plain different. I've fallen into that trap.

The bal res circled in yw is the 0.5 ohm in series with the coil.
I am talking about the 5 ohm BR, the other half of the dual BR. I do not see it.

That is probably the reason the cars won't run without the brain box being grounded.

see post 3, the schematic seems to be for a 4 pin box. I'm guessing as 67Dart273 mentioned, might not be the final production patent or product. The patent probably is for the idea of a controller with this design rather than the design itself.
