Mopar lowriders

it doesn't help that the auction houses and rich boy checkbook scribblers have pretty much ruined it for entry level Mopar enthusiasts. who can afford an 8,000 dollar beat up 4 door Coronet or satellite to chop up and put hydraulics on when you can find a decent Caprice 4 door for 1500 bucks with half the suspension already set up. these new generations aren't interested in old cars with carburetors. as the old people that own these cars die off, so will the demand for them. they will continue to be bought and sold only as an investment lather, rinse, repeat.
in 40 more years people will be rediscovering them under layers of dust in people's garages and storage units.

Gm doesnt have torsion bars they also use coil springs with shocks. Converting a mopar would cost way tooooo much

I know it's a old thread, but main reason mopars aren't used is because of the torsion bars and unibody, but if you know what your doing it's not hard to put hydros in a mopar, this is my latest build, 74 dart sport on hydros, and yes i went for the full on 70s vibe

I can appreciate quality work no matter the vehicle it is done to.
I don't care for imports, low riders, motorcycles or wild customs but their owners sure seem to love them as much as we love our cars.
You think a low rider owner likes a factory correct restored car? If he appreciates quality, he does.
Years back, there was a wave of the Fast and Furious type cars running around. You know what I mean....Import car, usually a front wheel drive with the tall rear spoiler and the fart pipe exhaust can sticking out from the rear valance. I hate them but hearing the owners talking with each other, there was passion for their cars. They were excited to talk about them.
Now, Low riders..... The quality of paint work is astounding. These cars may have started out as rusty as what WE restore but in those cars, you can't just slather on a half inch of Bondo over the quarters. Their cars flex when they are raised and lowered. Body filler would split and crack apart.
Often times, the low rider builders are families that all pitch in to build the car. How many of you people have your cousins and uncles helping with yours?
Watching their cars bounce may seem pointless to you. That is fine. They may see you sitting behind your car at a show and feel the same. They are having fun with their cars the way that they want. I say GOOD for them.

1937 and 1938 coupes of any brand are what I consider the pinnacle years for a me. While there are probably a lot more 64 Impalas riding low than any other single car.

Ford and Chevy production way out paced all the others combined. I am okay with using Slam Specialties air bags, a true hardcore Lowrider must have airplane

hydraulics to be considered a righteous ride.

I can read about cars I have no intention or desire to ever own. I can always appreciate the art, the design, the build of any auto.
It used to be the act of reading a car mag in the "thinking" room or "reading" room, then like HotRod after all the Mopar mags died off? BUT what do we have for car mags today!!!???? Hemmings? the big mag but since they dropped their classic and muscle mags, it is a total bummer! Hemmings? reading about 95% of high end cars I have no desire to own of I had the $$.
Maybe it is like the guy said ?" all great men are DEAD and I haven't been feeling too well lately either!"/// ???// :BangHead:

Ok, first off, I am NOT a low rider but I'm just making an observation here.

I notice most low riders are GM products.

Why do low riders not prefer mopars? Mopars take the same 5 on 4.5 wheels.

I always see GM products used, almost exclusively. Why is that?? I am glad to not see mopars in that condition but there has to be reasons.
Just because I didn't see anyone post this, GM has 5 on 4.75" wheels, big older GM's & Chrysler/Imperial & probably Lincolns had a 5 on 5.5" set of rollers IIRC.
