    Hey Guys,
We are moving full time to AZ next month and would like to know how easy it will be to register the 70 Dart Swinger 340. The ADOT site has only confused me more,LOL.. It appears no emissions test will be required? How about vehicle / vin inspection? Hopefully its no more complicated then filling out forms, providing proof of insurance and applying for historic plates? Any help or advice would be appreciated! See you all soon...

    Dave,

Hi Dave, No emissions testing is required on your Dart if you carry collector car insurance. You shouldn't need a vehicle / VIN inspection to bring your car in from out of state either.

I recently renewed the specialty plates on my car & it was $45 for the year. It would have only been $20 for regular plates.

You're gonna love the AZ DMV hahahehe

Thanks for the reply C, Sounds pretty straightforward to get the old girl registered. Do they send out the historic plates by mail after you order? I will keep smiling at the DMV counter, LOL... See everyone next month!

Dave, where did you end up buying at ? When we moved here we both thought Arizona DMV was heads and tails more efficient than Colorado but that may depend which one you go too. I know the one in Weld County,Colorado was famous for all the desk jockies just sitting at their desks drinking coffee and eating Donuts while the lines went out the door.

I think this is still how it is, been quite a few years since I purchased an out of state car and registered it in az. They had to inspect the vehicle and vin # on the frame of the car. Didnt take too long, the time factor depends on which DMV you go to, smaller towns only inspect on certain day or days of the week. call ahead.

Just finished getting all the vehicles registered. Did the 65 Chrysler last week. As long as you have collector car insurance you'll be exempt from emissions. One thing I would do different next time is go to a DMV contractor. They seem to know the requirements for a collector car. The lady at the state DMV was confused as to what to do.

I live in Mesa so kinda a small jaunt to where you are moving. There's a group of guys that get together for lunch every Thursday over on Yuma in Goodyear

I didn't have to have the car inspected even though it was there, this was 2 or 3 years ago. Budget cuts removed the inspection requirement for cars coming from out of state with a valid title. No title, you are subject to an inspection. One of the employees came out and looked at my paperwork and gave us the story. We could have gone inside and processed it without wasting time. LOL The office I went to was excellent and the employees were far from the govt workers I'm accustom to in California!

Smooth process and walked out with a fresh AZ title on the spot.

You can also find a set of plates that were issued to a vehicle from 69 to 71. Yellow and black lettering. You can then take that down to DMV and they will assign it to your vehicle.
I did that a few months ago. But you must have both front and back plates. You only NEED to display them on the back of the car, but you must have both in your possession.

Here is an example, but I am in no way recommending these. they are the first pix I found http://tinyurl.com/hg4o9w5

@Pawned Those yellow plates w/ black lettering were issued & correct thru 1972.

      I stand corrected typo

As he is talking about a 1970 vehicle, I knew it would be good.
