Muffler location 68 Dart

First muffler shop was $850, less if I provide the mufflers. Second shop not in my part of Richmond was $350 and I provide the mufflers. I have these so I am not going to use anything else. Also I am now going to dump the pipes at the rear axle to save money. I should be able to change mufflers if I don’t like the Flow FX. Also easy to change outlets to in front of the tires.

I have to do some more research. I need to see where the mufflers should sit.
I think they are way too far back.

Maybe they should sit way back after looking at more pictures.

Back of mufflers seem to end parallel to the end of the driveshaft.

If you simply look how the floor pan is made, it becomes extremely obvious where the mufflers go and even at what angle. Look at your fourth under car picture. That's exactly where and how they go. Up into the muffler recess with the front of the mufflers facing in toward the center of the car just a little bit.

Look up, rear of muffler has to match up with the hanger location. Everything else centers around this!

If you want to dump out the sides in front of the rear tires with those mufflers, you'll need some serious U-bends to bring the exhaust back forward and then out to the sides, and I'm not sure you'd have room for that..
Other options would be considerably shorter mufflers, header mufflers, or T/A-AAR style mufflers with the inlet and outlet both on the same end (that's how Chrysler did it).

Your best (and cheapest) bet with your mufflers would be to just put turndowns on them.

Professor Fate if the mufflers are pushed to the original location, I agree they will not be able to dump in the front of the tires. Turn downs are my best guess.

If you want to dump out the sides in front of the rear tires with those mufflers, you'll need some serious U-bends to bring the exhaust back forward and then out to the sides, and I'm not sure you'd have room for that..

In your pictures of installed system, your mufflers are about 4" too far forward. I don't recommend dumping before the axle as that allows gasses into the car. Dumping out the side will make the pipe very low and prone to damage.

Mufflers on our 68 GTS. Restoration exhaust system.

Replaced the mufflers, had an ignition failure, used a turbo muffler.

Fit was great, no issues or drone.

Resonators in front of the Turbo Mufflers help to knock the noise down to an acceptable level.

Dumps at rear axle.
