This is my 440 ‘cuda purchased in October 1976, sold in 1987 and re-purchased in March of 1990. Stripped out the interior and used muriatic acid to get rid of all the rust in the difficult spots.

What stage of the restoration are you at? Obviously, I see the last date appears to be Jan 2008

Friend of mine has a true M Code that he’s going to “restore”

It’s nearly complete. Started posting pictures several years ago but never kept up with it. Couldn’t find the old thread so I decided to start all over.

Is this one in the 440 M code registry and is it R4 paint car?

Yes it is. Registered it with BB Dave years ago. It is R4 red.
That what I meant R4 I fixed it. Ok then I have it. I took the registry over from Dave after he passed. That is a nice color. Mine is the same color

Perhaps you can let me know if he starts posting on here so I can follow his restoration.
I seriously doubt he will ever restore it. The last I saw it was when it was sitting outside besides his garage. His riding lawnmower (maybe 2 of them) weee occuping the garage

Would be nice to see some pictures of it. How long has he had it?

One time he told me his father bought it in 75 or 76 as a graduation present from high school. I’ve been told his father raced it and he did as well. It was cut for fenderwell headers. I know the original engine is long gone and he installed a 440 he got off of me in maybe the late 80’s

Put it on a homemade rotisserie so I could strip the whole underneath. My older brother had undercoated it at Tuff cote Dinol shortly after I purchased it. Wasn’t sure if I should have kissed him or kicked him in the a.. Was a real pain stripping it but there was little rust to be found. While removing one of the bolts from the right rear leaf spring assembly it broke. Had to drill it out and have plate drilled and re-tapped.

That is sweet. Seeing the cleaned sheetmetal is oddly satisfying to my OCD.

Took quite awhile to finally get the undercarriage primered. When installing the fender well headers in 1983 I had to cut the body supports in order to get the headers to fit and even then they didn’t fit very well. If I could have cut that section out I would have. So thankful I didn’t have the tools to do it. Ran into a fella last year in Wooster, Ohio who is restoring a 69 1/2 440 cuda and he sent me a picture of a 63 painted on the passenger side wheel well. While I was working on a cd for my restoration I happened to finally notice the 63 on mine, what a coincidence.

Do you know what the 63 means? Like install rear end code 63?

All 1969 1/2 440 ‘cudas had the E63 for the engine code which was the designation for a 383. They were than converted to 440’s. I suppose the 63 on the fender well was to let them know the car was to get a 440 engine. Don’t know why they didn’t use the 440 designation on the fender tag or fender well, baffling.
