My 318 Only Starts on the Rebound

I have a 318 with electronic ignition that will not start when cranking but starts right up when the key is released. Any ideas?

ballast resistor is bad, replace it

it's a new one but I have another one that I can try.

Your ignition switch has 2 ignition wires... 1 for running, and 1 for cranking
When engine in cranking over the switch kills all power to everything but starter and that 1 ignition start wire... after its running then the ignition run wire takes over... both need to be hooked up to start properly

What year is the car, what are you running for an ignition system, AND HAVE YOU MADE any wiring changes about this time

I just put the old ballast resistor back on and it starts correctly. I guess that a new part is not always a good part.

make sure you have the right ballast resistor (one for EI). ask for one from a 1973 dodge dart at the autoparts store for instance.
