The engine is getting a lot of oil blow by out of the oil breather, so I think it's time to pull the motor for a rebuild. I was also forced to use her for a partial winter vehicle and it really show me some soft areas on the car.
So I'm doing this in segments right now since I hate not having her to drive! We're tackling the engine compartment/nose first. With this my sons and I will be doing the engine rebuild, maintenance on the transmission and prep and paint and detail.

Past couple of weekends, we got the motor, tranny, K member/front suspension pulled, engine compartment stripped out and started the metal prep........ slowly but surely it's getting there.

We were planning on going with a gunmetal metallic paint with a maroon interior, but since seeing the white epoxy primer on her, I think we'll be going with a bright white. I'm a sucker for white vehicles, have had a few.
I`d drive any one of those ! my preference is the 64-65 body styles tho .

Good to see another wagon getting some much needed attention. Any plans to upgrade the brakes and suspension along the way?

I'd like to do a disk brake conversion at some point, not sure if it will this year.

Keeping the stock suspension. Added Mopar Performance leaf Springs when I got it.

Just a cruiser for the wife and I, nothing radical.

Ok guys & Gals, I have a question......

My hood release cable is attached to one side of my vin plate with a screw down clip...... Is this stock?
And if it isn't, how should it be ran.

Ok, think I answered my own question.......

I found this clip that would be behind the wiring harness for the lights. I'm assuming the hood latch cable was probably wrapped with tape to this clip.

Any thoughts?

Looking at other 66's it seems that not all of them came with the interior hood release.

I've looked for a reproduction clip, can't seem to find it. I'm assuming Laysons may have it, just can't find it

Early a-bodies didn't come with interior hood releases. In stock form, there is a lever between the passenger side grille and hood that is attached to the grille header.

I have it on this one, I owned a 66 Signet and my buddy had a 200 with the interior release...... if it's aftermarket, it was a popular one!

That is a standard clip, the ends are missing . They extend 3/4" or so in both directions and your harness gets taped to them.

love these little A body wagons. keep us posted on the wagon!

I kick myself for getting talked into a trade that never came to fruit back bout 2 yrs ago. I was ready to get a complete 65 dart wagon. I will find another one no doubt!!!!!

Got some more blasting done over the long weekend.....

One more day of blasting and I should have the outside of the inner fenders done. Then it's onto the rust repair.

doesn't it give ya a big feeling of accomplishment to get that done!? must be why we work on these old things!!!! looks good, and clean!

Oh, for sure!
Busted knuckles and sweating my button off but to see her become beautiful once again, it's well worth it!

So far, no big rot issues, eyebrow above the headlight on the passengers side will need to be replaced, my rear splash aprons need some work, bottom of the fenders and some minor holes in the drivers side inner fender lip where it mounts to the fender. I'll be making patch panels for theses sections.

Still need to blast the entire front suspension and K member. Then these will be painted in Rustolium.

Doing the final disassembly on the engine block this week which is being sent out for machine work....... it's getting there!

So my son & I took yesterday to get the block torn down so we can get it over to the machine shop this week.

The reason I decided to do the rebuild was i'v been getting alot of oil blowing out of the breather, knew there was an issue........ I think we found the problem!?

Cylinders dont look too bad. Going .060 over on the pistons, so it be no problem on the clean up.

There was a good 1/4" of sludge in the bottom of the pan.

Car was sitting for 12 years before the second owner ( who I purchased from) found it, who knows what they ever did to it to get it running, probably not much.

She'll have a better life very soon!

Looking goooood, I see you found your way to the greasy grimy part of the build

The blasting of the outer, inner fenders take a lot longer then the engine compartment......... Getting there tho!

They Looked like this before I pulled on them and basically the brittle plastic snapped.
Will be searching myself but maybe give Craig Studnick a call @ 516-485-1935.
He does most of the swap meets and such as Mobile Parts.
Carries A LOT of hard to find things...I've got one heck of a shopping list on my full restoration.

Looks like you are making really good progress. Keep it up

Just got word from the machine shop that the motor should be ready next week sometime!

Haven't been able to much other work done to the body or front end with all the other things we have going on, going to be tuff to get her back on the road this year I think, we will see!

Haven't had much time as of late for the wagon, but we have the motor back from the machine shop and the majority of the parts to get it assembled.

Won't be doing much on her till spring I'm sorry to say with the cold weather creeping in.
