My 66 Valiant wagon......

-
Looking good! Not sure how I missed your thread!

I'm doing a slow (as when I have time and when the Body lets me) semi-custom resto on my 65 Dart wagon - complete 66 Barracuda interior including the dash with a Dakota Digital conversion, adding factory air, 4 wheel disc brakes, etc.

Not using the slant but using a 66 273/235 motor with the Commando valve covers and Commando air cleaner. Transmission will be a 65 833.

FINALLY getting some.work done to my baby!

Need a few odds and ends to finish it up and to sandblast the oil pan, valve cover, timing chain cover and such, but she's getting there!

Neal

Awesome Neal, I know you are getting excited.
Keep up the good work, it will pay off.

After a long hiatus, I'm getting back to the wagon!

We're at a point now of getting the engine back together and what I'm stumbling on right now is Camshaft selection!? After talking to SlantsixDan, I was going to send my camshaft out to Oregon Cam Grinding for their № 2106R regrind. Well, it's a great price to start, but when I figure in Shipping charges from Rhode Island back and forth, I can probable get a brand new one for cheaper!

I found that the Howards Cams 751082-12 is damn close to the regrind listed above, here's a link to it on Jegs (best price I found so far!)......
Howards Cams 751082-12: 1960 - 1987 CHRYSLER 170- | JEGS

I looked around on-line and it seems they have a decent reputation, anyone here ever use their stuff?
Think I may pull the trigger on this one!

And while the engine's out, I have decided to do a color change on the car! She'll be going Artic White, I'm a sucker for a white car for some reason......
Arctic White Urethane Basecoat Clear Coat Kit Featuring 5 Star Clear Coat Automotive Paint, Car Paint, Auto Paint

Started the sandblasting again since I still have the K member, front suspension, engine tins and other odds and ends to do before she goes back together....... more photos coming soon!

She's back on the road this year, I really miss driving her!!!!

Little more done on the engine!

Hopefully I can finish up the head this week and get her buttoned up and ready for paint!

Nice work ! What medium are you blasting with ?

Speaking of color , My '66 Dart is just about ready to come home from paint .
It was WW1 white and a custom yellow now it's Toyota Tundra white and Turquoise that is a fleet color for a Florida city.

I'll be following your project .

Just using sand at the moment, keeping the gun moving and at an angle to cut down on distortion of the metal.

I'm hoping that within the next week or two, all the sandblasting I'm doing this round will be done! Have one outer fenderwell to do, the K member and all the front suspension and a fee odds and ends left.

Paint is on it's way! Artic White and Tractor Red for the Engine. The Red should be a nice match to the new interior being planned. Using a combination of Rustolium paint colors for the suspension and such.

Love he new color combo GGs66GT!

Thanks for the reply.
White with a Red interior sounds like our '63 270 4 door, everything inside was red from the carpet to the headliner.
It wouldn't hurt to break it up with white headliner and door panels.

Somehow I missed this thread but I am also building a slant six for a 63 Valiant wagon. It's very nice to see your progress.

Nothing better than sandblasting in 90 degree weather!
Well, one thing, the end product! :)

Got some painting done!
Rustolium gloss black for the crossmember and the motor/transmission mount, and a special mix of Rustolium gloss black/aluminum for the suspension parts.

Well, I made a decision to add a little work to the already long list I have here. I have decided to convert the car to an AC car. Was hoping to find a complete factory AC unit....... well, thanks to FwdlkFrank I scored! Thanks again Frank!

Frank is a great guy to work with! Have done quite a few transactions with him - both buying and selling!

Started the metalwork also....... hoping to have it in paint by the end of the month!

Cant agree with you more!

Firewall look familiar?;)

Yes it does! Frank got that one from me after I sourced the one now in my wagon.

I decided to add factory AC to my wagon. although the firewalls are the same basic contour, all the specialized mounting holes, cutout for the bulkhead wiring and cutout for the blower motor is vastly different than a non-AC firewall. IMHO the solution is to add an AC firewall.

If you need any info on the firewall swap or anything else, drop me a PM.

I may take you up on that! ;)

I'll be doing it the hard way and modifying the existing firewall. ;) got the old unit out yesterday just some minor stuff to remove now and I'll start measuring and cutting Friday.

Also, a heads up, if you're in need of a gasket rebuild kit for the box, Detroit Muscle Technologies is offering up a new expanded kit which includes clips and the drain tube now. It's a little over $100, not listed on their website yet, shoot them an E-mail or call them.

Yes it does. The reason for the change in the bulkhead orientation is the AC part of the underdash unit covers part of the horizontal opening for the bulkhead connector. The factory AC for the slant also requires the use of the V8 throttle assembly.

I made a template of mine for another member and all went well for him until he did the cutout for the blower motor. He had to fabricate a ring of some kind to fix the hole!

Thanks for the heads up! I don’t have that particular kit but do have their previous kit that comes without the drain hose. I do have one of those though.

Along with getting the firewall modified for the AC, I also got the factory cable operated gas pedal installed and I got the bulkhead connection moved and rotated, just have to weld it up.

Hoping to have paint on all this next week!
