My 71 Demon

-
Well switched over from points to electric ignition this past weekend and that was easier than I thought. Last night I could not wait any longer and decided to try to start the 340. It fired right up and now I really have the fever to get this project road ready as soon as the roads are cleaned off. Nothing quite like hearing a motor start up with open headers. I looked at the last inspection sticker and this car has been sitting since 91 so 20 years and it's back alive... Good times!!

Well I've been slacking on the update and photos. I promise to take some today as this build is coming together fast and I may have missed a few steps with the photos. I'll have to look at what I have. Right now the car is running great. The cam that was put in this motor is awesome sounding and has a nice chop to it. The motor is pretty much complete, just need to address some wires to clean it up and I have a few parts to get to straighten up under the hood but looking good. I converted the front to disc brakes last night and now all I'm waiting on is a FABO member to get me the axles that I purchased from him and this car would be ready to hit the street. I would really like to have those as you can imagine... Since I do not have those I started the body work last night to get ready to paint. I don't have a lot to do there so that should move pretty quickly as well. The tires and rims should be here this week as well so that will give you all the look I'm going for. Thanks for reading... I'll post photos tonight!

Sorry the photos are late. Here you go...

Did the hood scoops last night and thanks to Taz for selling me the template. That made a 2 hour job all of 10 minutes. If you are thinking of putting them on your car look him up. Well worth the $30.00.

not to keep hacking your build but your alternator is on wrong. your adjuster is on upside down and backwards it should be on the lower side of your pulley

Thanks, criticism welcomed!! Never said I knew what I was doing! HaHa. Was wondering why the alternator was rubbing on the bracket!!

OMG, you started this in March and you're going to drive it in May.....can't call this a "project".......they take YEARS to complete and you're smokin' here. Congrats on the fast pace and outcome...:thumrigh:

Do you have any pics of how the motor mounts attach to the engine ? Looking at on-line catalog pics, the mount just has 2 studs and the block seems to need a bracket for the stud to go in ?

Sorry did not take any pictures for the mounts on the motor but here is the link to where I got mine and they fit perfect. The ones I put on had 3 bolts each to mount to the motor and the big bolt to mount to the car!

Man you're flying through this project. Send me some of that energy you've got. Almost 12 years and I've barely done anything to improve my Demon. lol

Glad you kept it green.

Well this week was pretty much wasted. Helped my buddy take a motor out of a Mud Truck and put the new big block in. Lots of things were wrong with it so it took us a little longer than expected. Finally found some axles and brakes for the rear. Body work should be done this week and primed as well. Hope to start painting next week if the axles get here so we can drive it to the shop to paint. The local Garage is going to let me paint it there on Sunday when he is not opened so that helps out. I will post some pictures this week when it is primed!!

Well it finally got the best of me. Took my car out for the first time last night, open headers and all. I believe the entire neighborhood came out to see what in the world was going on. All I know is this is one tire burning car. All I have left to do is the front fender, block it and start the painting. Next photos you see she will be done. Just in time for Summer!!

Almost complete guys and gals.... Had the exhaust installed yesterday and took it out for the First ride last night. Man does it ride good!! After the ride I put it back on the lift to check for leaks as this is the first time it's really been up to temp and only a leak around the rear axle so I need to replace that seal but other than that everything is great. I hope to have completed photos tonight for all of you but until them these will have to do. Hope you like it!!

I think you did a great job is such a short period of time.
I love the color and stripes.
Cudos to you!

Man, am I late to the party! Just found this thread and you're already done.
Great looking Demon! So, since this was your grandmothers car are you calling the color 'Granny Green'? The original green goes well with the black stripes.
Congrats on a great quick build. I've had my Dart for 4 years now and nowhere even ready for paint yet.
