My 71 Plymouth Duster Resto

-
Just want to show the rims and tires I bought for the car. They are American Racing VNT 70 R rims. In the second picture I had to mount the rear wheel on my brothers 73 Dart Sport to get an idea how she looked haha

Those are the EXACT wheels i had on my B7 Blue 1970 Duster 340, back in the day!

American Racing Equipment no longer makes these in the Abody 4" SBP, otherwise I'd have a set on my 1971 original Duster 340.

I luv those wheels! I used Silicrome paste in a tube to clean and polish the outer lip, and used silicone spray on the spokes, and that method kept those wheels looking great, as long as I wash them weekly.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comments! I think her new name is Theresa.. Thats the name she was born with so Ill start calling her that haha. About the brake, Fuel lines.. I've already bought the complete new Stainless steal Brake and fuel lines for it from Inline Tube! :toothy7: It was pretty pricey but I think it will save a ton of time and look really good when its all together. My brother has installed them on a couple Superbirds he restored and said they are really good quality pieces and the way to go. I have bent fuel lines on another Duster I had and it wasnt that hard.. its just it got tricky when it when through the frame under the passenger door.

When I saw the rims online I had to get them.. Kinda like a Torq Thrust D but not quite. I went with 15 x 8's in the rear and 15 x 7's up front. 235/60/15's for the Front 275/60/15's for the rear I think I will have to do alittle trimming to the rear quarter panel lip area.. nothing major though.

At first I was going to leave the windshield in but I keep either getting talked into doing more or I start thinking.. Well.. im already here.. I might as well do this.. and that. haha. Im sure ill be glad im doing it the way im doing and it will be better in the long run. But anyways.. here the dash is coming out, and the windshield has come out. Ive bought new clips and grinded the area down and primed it for now.

This is the floors after the carpet was pulled. The heater box leaked real bad apparently and made swiss cheese of the passenger side floor. I ordered a brand new AMD full passenger side floor pan but will only need from the seat forward. That will be my next project soon! The rest of the floors are in great shape and will just get a wire brushing and coat of POR 15. Rear floors I could eat off them :booty:

The Fenders have come off and here im starting to grind the engine bay. Because im working outside I put a quick primer coat on it to keep it from flash rusting. As soon as the suspension gets back on I will take it to a booth and do a good coat of primer and then paint. The metal was pitted pretty good around the master cylinder area so it will need alittle filler there to smooth it out. Also, this car came with Dealer installed air and some num nutt at the dealership did a piss poor job of drilling holes in teh firewall and floor to put the air in. I plan on just going back to a Heater only car so that will need to be patched as well.

I took all the suspension parts from the 73 Duster parts car and sand blasted them. I bought Energy Suspension Poly bushing for the car and in these pics you see where I sand blasted the parts and installed the upper a arm bushings and ball joint before painting. Spindles got blasted and repainted as well. Just waiting to get put back on the car.

Recommendation on the yellow. 1971 only color Curious Yellow (also known as Citroen Yellow) has a green tinge to it in off lighting and screaming bright yellow in the sun. Check out my resot page for lots of pics. Really nice restoration platform by the way. Rust doesn't look to bad and appears to be a nice straight car. Most improtantly...have fun :).

What size and brand of tires were on it? I'm looking for something that has a thin whitewall like that.

They are Cooper Cobra's 235/60/15's for the Front 275/60/15's for the rear 15 x 7 up front and 15 x 8 for the rear. I believe thats the largest tire you can put under there with out rubbing. I might be wrong though.

No 60 series tire has a whitewall. They look like a 75 series tire.

I'm sorry.. I totally misunderstood your question.. haha I was thinking you were asking about the new tires. I dont have those old tires and rims anymore but I believe they were 70's or 75's They were older tires that were starting to dry rot alittle. But they looked to have been put on in the late 80's or early 90's is my guess. I had another duster that I sold and I threw those on there.

here was my 72 duster that I threw them on.

Oh well, thanks anyway, bro.

This weekend I got all the suspension parts together and started throwing them on the car FINALLY! Lots of sandblasting and painting finally done! Here is the lower control arms before and here are some of the various suspension parts painted black.

well..Yesterday I got out in the nice 105 - 110 degree Mississippi heat and worked more on the front suspension and also the rear end. My goal at the moment is to get it back on the ground so I can roll it around. That will help alot on the rest of the resto and also allow me to load it up on the trailer to take it to a paint booth to spray the engine bay.

Here are pictures of the rear end getting the leaf springs. I will cut the U-bolts down so they dont hang so far down alittle later. Also I clear coated my new gas tank and got the new sending unit installed. It will go in after the rear end.

Im still learning this whole process but my brother told me after I got the leaf springs bolted up to the rear end that I should have bolted the front of the leaf springs to the car first, then roll the rear end under the car, and bolt the rear and drop the U-bolts down last.. haha. He was right and I should have done that.. because lastnight it was a pain to get the rear end to bolt up to the car but I got it! I think the heat affected my common sense train of thought. haha

Very Nice Job. It's great to see someone else do a Restro! I was just there about 2 months ago and know exactly where you are. Our cars pretty much look the same when we first started and everything that you had to replace I did as well. Good Luck with the Build. Great Job so far. I went with the green and Black Stripe with the blacked out Hood
