I'd have to agree on the broken thing, but what broke and why would it go backwards...
I have a spare speedo from a 72 sitting on the shelf and there is no way I can see that it would be possible for it to roll back even if it's broken. I'm sure that the 60's speedo's are different but....

Gotta be something goofy with the odo gearing in the speedo head. That would be an interesting one to take a scalpel too....
