My honest experience... converters

-
Torque converters are an interesting item. I had two for my 727. Both 8”. One 6000, the other 6200. The 6k would 60 in the mid 1.2s (traction had to be on point) and was definitely the “go fast” set up. The 62 created a stack of 1.34 60 times at various tracks. While it slowed the et marginally, it made the car as deadly consistent as its ever been. Both were fun in their equal right…… of course i threw all that out and went 904. I’m pretty good at screwing up perfectly good bracket cars.

I guess this is the right thread to actually say something about the FTI converter (though I did in the Duster thread). I was really impressed how it drives like a stock converter on the street but really performed at the track. Best converter, so far, I've ever bought.

I had a cheap Dacco higher stall converter in my 727. It did ok but not that great. It launched my car (1974 dodge dart sport 360)sometimes sluggish from stop light. So came across an FTI 3400-3600 stall on ebay. It was used but the price was right. Bit the bullet. She does so much better than the cheap converter.

We’ve all had our “go to” guys :)

I had used Lenny since the early 90s…. He’s retired now. I’d like to have someone do another converter for my 904 just for kicks
