I am generally a lurker here and have gained a lot of knowledge but now I need some help. On my birthday my 16-year-old son ran over a two-post light up sign in my ’64 Valiant Signet that I have owned since 1999. He is crushed and was very upset. I should have seen it coming. He was having too much fun as a young driver. It’s only a warmed over 318 with push button automatic and 3:55 gears but it does get out of its own way. It also has an electric exhaust cutout

that my son thought you used anytime you wanted which was all the time. It was too much too soon, and he ran over a sign. I need a hood. If anyone has a straight clean hood for a ’64 Valiant they want to sell, I am a buyer with cash waiting. I found a good bumper, valiance and grill but still need a hood. Thanks.

There's a yard with several here in nc I'd go pull one but shipping on that might be insane. I've done bumpers for very reasonable though

Thanks for the replies. It may not look bad in the photo but the hood and front got hit hard. Everything is pushed down and back. Look at the distance between the center hood molding and the hood, that's how much its moved. Anything can be fixed with enough money but I'll still look for another hood. Who knows if I can't find a stock hood it might sport an AAR hood in the spring.

Left a perfect '63/'64 hood in the local yard, southern NM, when it was crushing out. Simply too far from the customers. LOGISTICS is the GORILLA in the room. Dave S. las Cruces NM 88012.

Any news from the OP? I really like that 64 Signet. Those are cool cars. Hope you find the parts and get it fixed up. I can see the boy is devastated. That's one test drive he will not forget.

Thanks again for all the replies. You guys are great. The center hood molding was not damaged luckily. I was surprised how much this accident affected my son. He wasn't hurt physically, the car has upgraded shoulder and lap belts which he was wearing but he really beat himself up mentally for letting the car get away from him. He grew up with and loves the Valiant. I bought it in 1999 and have been working on it and driving it ever since. Next month I have a tentative appointment to look at 4 or 5 hoods in New Hampshire. The owner of the hoods I spoke to sounded cool on the phone but don't know what to expect. Wish me luck. I will update the thread after my hood trip.
