Hello I've recently brought a 1968 318 which came with a auto transmission thrown in the deal however neither me or the guy I brought them off have a clue what trans it is. After hours of searching different forums and website based on the sump and bolt pattern it's a 904 and the length 31" matches what I've read for the 904 ( I could be wrong) however the stamped numbers and casting numbers don't fully match up with anything I can find listed online (so I most likely am wrong). Is there any gurus on here that maybe able to shed some more light on what I've got?

The number on the trans are as followed:
764-4 cast on the bell housing
2892764 4 cast onto the side of the body above the stamped plate
289207272511 3584 stamped on the plate above the pan
2466880 cast into the side of the tail

I have got some photos however it's saying there to large I will sort them out and get them posted if anyone needs

Thanks any help on this will be greatly appreciated

The stamped numbers 2892072 is a 1968 904 318 2-bbl is the part number 2511 is the date it was built and 3584 is the number produced. 2511 is June 12, 1968. You have an extra 7 at the end of the part number...

Bloody hell that was quick! Thanks!
Im guessing occasionally when thwy were stamping the numbers they got abit carried away then
