Hi Folks

Just installed a new set of cat whiskers in my '71 Demon. The outer portion (rubber part) is extremely tight on the glass causing the need for excessive force to operate the window.

The rubber portion actually flips towards the direction the window is operating. For example, to roll the window down, enough force must be applied to get the rubber flipped downward. Conversely, from the down position, the same excessive force is required to flip the rubber upwards.

I hope I am explaining this properly.

Has anyone experienced a tight fit like this? Any suggestions before I destroy the regulators??

Thanks FABO

Yeah, I understand. I think the rubber piece is supposed to remain still and not "flip". That will wear them out in short order.

What brand are they? I like Topcat brand that are flocked felt like material. I have some rubber window sweeps on my pickup and they grab the window like what yours are doing.

You might try spraying the seals themselves with silicone lubricant. Not the whole window, just the seals. Then work the window up and down several times and clean the window off good. That might influence them to work correctly.

Not sure of the brand. I got them in a new parts lot. Has flocking on the inside of the glass and the rubber on the outside of the glass.

Sound like the shat rubber ones I got from Year One in 1988 ! Richard's true Catwhiskers shouldn't do that...
These have flocking on the inside sweep and rubber on the outside sweep. Did you have a fix, or did you change them?

I'll give that a shot........Was thinking of may be wedging a strip of something between the rubber and the glass forcing it out ward, then applying some heat. (while protecting the surrounding paint etc) Does this sound feasible?

I actually installed a set that I bought from year one back in the early 2000’s. I installed the passenger side first without issue but on the driver side, some of the clip fingers broke off when installing them. So I ordered another set from DMT for the driver side. All this to say… the passenger side pieces from year one are doing this too. They flip up if rolling the window up and down if rolling the window down. The ones from DMT are flocked

I'll say it again. Our own Richard here.. @69Bfan on FBBO... I forget what he goes by here... produces Catwhiskers and they ARE the cats ***...
Yup......My doors are ALL back together. Not sure if I could even get these ones out without doing some damage.

LOL Troy. Yep, door panels back off... glass down stop lowered, pop the existing off and install some good cat whiskers. You can do it... still 20" of ice on Temagami anyhow.. LOL

I would try without heat first. I think I would use that as a last resort.......if at all. Maybe a hair drier.

Here’s the company that manufactures the Top Cat Whiskers that @69bfan from FBBO sells.

Got the cat whisker problem solved..........After finding that the silicone lube didn't have the desired effect, I hacked the **** out of them with an exact o knife. Problem solved.

This car is pissing me off, and getting closer to the edge of the cliff. :(

Maybe should've shaved a little off the glass instead? :poke:
I think glass is cheaper then fn cat whiskers.
LOL......No ****! It pisses me off buying the crap, and it doesn't work......The worst part is the re-do. Heading to Nigel's in a week and a half to pick up a package tray. Then I can finish getting the rear part of the interior together. Off for a safety after that.

BTW....Your gonna' love the Gorilla Tape job on my door cards I'm done spending money on this chunk of ****.

Ive been seeing more places that carry the TopCat brand of cat whiskers, including DMT. I personally have not used them, but have been reading good things about them.
Im gonna have to redo my whiskers when I paint my car, cause Im pretty sure they arent coming out without a fight and getting damaged, so Ill probably give TopCat a shot, even though Ive still got some left from PUI since I had to buy an entire kit just for my doors.
Who here has used this brand and can give a review? I think @dadsbee said he thought they were the cats ***.

I used Topcat in our 67 fastback, fitment was "ok". I had to mod/MacGyver/weld a spot(hidden) where the rear one clipped into. Once installed, they seem OK. I only did one side at rear. I haven't attempted doors yet...no "flip up/flip down" with it tho, thankfully.
