Hey,

Sorry this is not about a-bodies, but would love any opinions. Long story, but I will try to make it quick. Several years ago, I brought a numbers matching, auto on the colum, ac, disc brakes, power steering, build sheet, fender tag, 1970 GTX that was running driving car. It needed floor pans, trunk pan etc.. I took it to the body shop, car was torn apart (but bagged & tagged). Got the run around for about a year or so, got frustrated, sold the GTX but stayed in touch with the new owner. I recently ran across a 71 RT Challenger I brought (340, ac, disc brakes, auto, 73 model 340 motor, no fender tag, but true 340 rt car based on vin, door tag, cowl / rad. stampings.)

Tried to buy the GTX back almost as soon as I sold it but the new owner did not want to sell, of course now that I have the Challenger, he has decided to sell the car back if I want it. The GTX has been apart for several years now, a couple of different guys have worked on it, just not sure if I would not be better off with the Challenger. GTX still needs some body work and to be reassembled, painted, interior, motor rebuilt etc. Challenger would need similar work, but the body is not as bad as the GTX was to begin with. GTX has rechromed bumpers, all parts needed to rebuild motor, new 15" mag. 500 wheels.

I would need to sell the Challenger to get the GTX. Would love to have both, but can't.

Which one would you guys go with.

I think most guys will tell you to stick with the E body, but I'm a huge B body fan. Especially a 70 GTX - one of the best looking Mopars IMO. Awesome grille, and tail panel design. The simulated air scoops on the quarters make it look bad a$$. I say go back to the GTX if it's available.

Although, if it were me, I'd find a way to keep both. That's how I wound up with 5 Mopars (not including the Ramcharger and 300C)!

I'm not a fan of the E-body but those that are REALLY like them.
There are more repoped pieces available for it too. I would think the properly restored Challenger would have more than enough loan value needed to buy the GTX or most anything else.

I would go with the GTX, always liked those 70 Plymouth b-bodies. The Challenger is cool too. If it is a real R/T car, it would be nice to have a fender tag. Does the Challenger have a build sheet? You could flip a coin....either car would be awesome!

definitely a tough choice...

So far between the good people on this site and some of my local friends, the GTX is winning out.... but I like the Challenger too! I guess it is good to be in this position, but it is tough trying to get any work done. What a Monday.

I really like 68-70 B bodies BUT i have a really big soft spot for challengers. I would take a 70-71 challenger over a GTX anyday. Then again, the challenger is the car that got me into mopar mucle cars, even though ive never owned one.

If it was me I would take the GTX. I had a friend in High School who had two of them, one white with an auto & one bronze with a white top, air grabber & a 4 speed. I loved 'em, especially the bronze one. You could probably find somebody to take the E body off of your hands since they are the hot thing these days. Now if the E body was a 'Cuda, it'd be a different story.

I would have to say keep the Challenger. I paid a grand for my rolling shell of a '70 challenger and have never looked back. course it is still a rolling shell and I have 3 other Mopars that are taking precedence. o well

After some hard thinking, I am starting to lean towards the Challenger. Very few 71 RTs, even fewer 71 340 / ac, RTs, based on production numbers and looking around on the net there is less of a chance of finding another I might could afford and I have a parts car for it. The only thing holding me back is ALL the documentation the GTX has and remembering the fun it was putting down black marks as far as I wanted. Thanks for all the comments and pictures. I told the guy I would call him back Wednesday or Thursday, so any final ideas would be appreciated.

Stayed with the Challenger. Might be sorry later, but it is done. Thanks for the help.
