We had the same problem with the seals on my son's '74 Dart Sport.
The "grooved" style would not install properly. In the upper corner that makes a 90 deg. angle at the top of the quarter window support, the rubber seal would not fit tight up in the channel. That 90 deg. corner on the seal looks like a picture frame mitered at 45 deg., and the ridges and grooves on the top and back surface do not align properly.
Not only that, think about this... I don't think the glass is intended to slip inside the groove. If you roll the window up with the door closed, and the glass slides up into the groove, what happens when you open the door - the glass would pop out of the groove. Now, what happens if you close the door again - the glass can't pop back into the groove. I think the glass is supposed to rest on the outside surface of the seal, so what is the purpose of the groove?
We eventually gave up on seating the seal properly in the channel and put the old seals back on the car (luckily, they were still in decent condition). We aren't going to have such luck with the '74 Gold Duster we are now working on - the seals are shot. Which ones are you saying are those sold that do not have the molded grooves?
