I have a 72 plymouth scamp with a 7.25 rear in it. I want to go bigger. Can anyone tell me what year and makes i might be able to pull either a 8.25 or 8.75 out of and bolt in with out a lot of modifcations being done.

thanks Kelly

Well for an 8.25 rear you can find pretty much any v8 A-body and should drop right in.

For an 8.75 you can find A-body ones but they are expensive or find a B or C body one and cut it down to length.

ALot of rears for sale at swap meets and also in the FS forum.

The big bolt pattern or BBP is the bolt circle where the wheel lugs (or studs, which ever you want to call it) go. The BBP is a 5 X 4.5" pattern or more commonly known as 5 X 114.3mm. The small bolt pattern or SBP is 5 X 4" pattern

Waaaaay back in the day Mopars had left hand threads/lug nuts on one side too, I have a trailer with a straight axle from a dodge truck and it still has left hand threads, that really throws people off.

'66-72 A-body for an 8 3/4 rear. Has the same 4" bolt pattern wheels as your '72 7 1/4.
'73-6 A-body for an 8 1/4 rear. Has the 4 1/2" wheel pattern. You'll need new wheels.
Both need a shorter driveshaft and the larger U-bolts and shock plates but bolt right in.
All other rears would need to be narrowed or the use of negative offset wheels/narrow tires to keep them inside the quarter panel.
