70 Duster. Windshield and gasket replaced 3 years ago during restoration. I just purchased car a month ago. Noticed water leak a each corner base of windshield at dash. Removed dash, heater box, steering column, etc and entire interior except for dash shell. Cleaned up floor from surface rust and have purchased new carpet. (Probably leaked from day one!)

Running water over windshield showed leaks at the corner of the gaskets. Took Urethane and sealed between glass and gasket. Waited 2 days. Ran water again, same leak.

A week later, removed stainless mouldings around windshield. All looks good, no rust, gasket seems solid. I know this is not the way to do this but in desparation, Urethaned entire area around gasket on outside between gasket and body including plugging the four drain holes at the bottom. Put moulding back on before Urethane hardened knowing I would never get if off if need be in the future.

Waited 2 days, ran water. No water leak on one side, but now other side leaks the same place as before but only worse. Instead of a drip, I now get a small stream. Now I know I am faced with the biggest mess ever. Will surely need a new gasket, probably a new windshield, and for sure new mouldings and possibly clips, if I can even get the old one out!

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or mouldings I can purchase before undertaking this monumental task?

Thanks

I only have a couple of suggestions. Cut the rubber to get the windshield out, it's ruined now anyway. You can clean the urethane off of the windshield with a razor blade, windshield should be fine. And NEVER use urethane to seal this type of windshield that uses a rubber gasket. If you must use sealer, use Butyl.
Sorry I don't really have a solution for the leakage problem.

If you do just cut the gasket out you should be able to take the window out then gasket and save the trim or you could try running a knife along the inside of the trim against the gasket and then try a trim remover maybe sharpen the edge on it and you might get it off without wrecking anything but you will most likely bend the trim unless your really good at it urethane will peel off the rubber gasket and maybe even the body if you didn't use a primer but you will have to work at it and the sooner you get to it the better I work in a factory playing with that stuff building cars its doesn't always stick the best on an unprimed unpreped surface and that may play in your favour

My understanding was Butyl is not being used by windshield installers due to safety reasons. Where can one purchase this at? Appreciate everyone's help here. Was able to purchased a good set of used mouldings yesterday. No dents or dings, just needs cleaned up. Also have seen various windshield gaskets from $100 to $125.00. Steele Rubber advertises their gasket as "VULCANIZED" rubber. What's the difference?

Are you sure it's not the wiper gaskets?

Butyl can be bought at NAPA. Newer cars need urethane, because the windshield becomes a structural part of the vehicle stiffness. Very well could be the wiper posts leaking, or somewhere along the edge of the gasket. Someone here might have a spare gasket, perhaps even me if I dig around. put butyl on the frame, and you don't have to worry about it hardening,it stays pretty much the way it is as it come out of the tube. Good luck!

Positive it is NOT the Windshield Wiper gaskets. Complete dash is out of the car. I can see very plainly the water coming out of the bottom corner gasket on the drivers side. Thanks for mentioning it though.
