70 Duster. Windshield and gasket replaced 3 years ago during restoration. I just purchased car a month ago. Noticed water leak a each corner base of windshield at dash. Removed dash, heater box, steering column, etc and entire interior except for dash shell. Cleaned up floor from surface rust and have purchased new carpet. (Probably leaked from day one!)
Running water over windshield showed leaks at the corner of the gaskets. Took Urethane and sealed between glass and gasket. Waited 2 days. Ran water again, same leak.
A week later, removed stainless mouldings around windshield. All looks good, no rust, gasket seems solid. I know this is not the way to do this but in desparation, Urethaned entire area around gasket on outside between gasket and body including plugging the four drain holes at the bottom. Put moulding back on before Urethane hardened knowing I would never get if off if need be in the future.
Waited 2 days, ran water. No water leak on one side, but now other side leaks the same place as before but only worse. Instead of a drip, I now get a small stream. Now I know I am faced with the biggest mess ever. Will surely need a new gasket, probably a new windshield, and for sure new mouldings and possibly clips, if I can even get the old one out!
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or mouldings I can purchase before undertaking this monumental task?
Thanks
