New driver with an old car

I’m a new driver and just got my new car when trying to parallel park I use a blind spot mirror which works for me. But I wanted to be sure, so I’m looking for suggestions for parking sensors. Aside from curb feeler. LOL.

I guess you could always invest in some sort of backup camera system. I admit, at 69, with my neck problems, I almost NEVER parallel park, and generally have no need to go anywhere where I'd need to, meaning, the tourist trap area of "downtown"

Do it enough and you will be able to do it with just a rear view mirror and driver side mirror. It just takes time to be able to look at those mirrors and figure out where the rear right side of the car is.

Or you could buy a passenger mirror

soon enough you will know how far to back in, when to swing her around and where there is or isnt enough room

IIRC, back in the day, they told us this.
Pull up next to the car in front of the space.
Stop with the center of your rear wheel at the back of said cars bumper.
Turn steering wheel, back into space.
Works for me all these years.

They removed parallel parking from the drivers test in MD a year or so ago.

I'll still teach my kids when they start driving.

Pull along side (parallel) to the car in front of the spot that You intend to use -- Turn front wheels to the right - go backwards to the mid point of Your car, at a 45 degree angle to the curb - Back up while turning the front wheels to the left - presto, You're in.

I thought we still had parallel parking as part of our licence testing in most states of Australia so dam sure you would have had to do it to get your licence I know my youngest did when she got her licence 10 years ago although they did tell her not to change down gears when coming to a stop only to use the brakes which is against what I had taught her and against what I learnt 50 years ago getting my heavy truck licence

To makemeasammich, practice practice practice until you can do it nearly as good as a stunt driver. Learn the old fashion way. Get a teach or figure it out yourself. You’ll be miles ahead of the game.

Yep, hardest part of the test for any new driver I`d say, was for me.
I did`nt have a car but wanted my license, heck, I think I was 15, called a learners permit.
Had to have a licensed driver with you, and at 16 could get junior operators IIRC or operators. I forget.
My brother inlaw let me use his mid 70s 4 dr. Olds, you know, those massive boats?
Our parking test they were cruel, I had to parallel on a steep hill. Made me do it twice, was`nt close enough first time. Passed me anyhow

Made my son take his test in a mega cab long wheel base truck. The DPS guy that evaluated him asked if his parents hated him when they got in. He nailed the parking. Me I failed it in 72 Mercury more door.

I had to do a parallel park in a 8 ton pan tech for my heavy licence, and it was on a uphill reverse to the spot (had moved to city area by this time). My father had me driving a L series Mack sitting on phone books with blocks of wood attached to the pedals, at 8 years old and letting me drive the family car on my own at 10, (as we lived in the country at that time), until the local cop saw me and said I had to stay to the back roads in case one of the brass happened into town.
The main thing get to a carpark on a weekend and lay out some cheap traffic cones (Kmart. $5. for half a dozen) and practice, practice, practice,

Tony, you probably back up more miles a year than most people drive forward.

I hear you, no shame in getting a little help from technology. I wear a neck brace so I'm hoping this parking sensor from fensens works it looks like I can connect it to my phone, and no wiring required, so it all sounds good to me. It should be delivered in a couple of weeks. Keeping my fingers crosses.

I have a govue backup camera. Connects to my phone. Not great but not bad. The cheap yada in my truck croaked, i miss it. I could back up within an inch of whatever i wanted to.

No parallel paring in driver test? There has to be an underlying reason for that. Probably too many lawyers kids failing....
