Made a new friend. I have been spending some time at a neighbors house, helping him do some plumbing and yard work. His next door neighbor has a red Australian Sheppard named Max. He wandered over 2 months ago or so when my neighbor was away on a business trip. I gave him a biscuit or 2 and he went back home. Now he sees me driving down the road and he sneaks out under the gate and follows me to my friends house. And he just hangs around me until I leave. He is a really cool little dog. My wife was there yesterday when he came over and she felll in love with him. Anybody know anything about this breed???

did he look anything like this?

we were told he was a german sheppard/collie mix

but was never sure what he was. A few years after he was gone we stopped for gas and a lady on the other side of the island had her dog with her and without seeing it it sounded just like our dog. It was a Miniture Austrailian Shepard. Looked just like our dog except he was not tri color, just black & white, same markings and shape of head.

If I were to get another dog I think that is what I would get.

He was very smart, great with everyone. He was only 9 yr old and had a bad knee in his hind leg and the vet said that was common in the breed.

Austrailian Shepherds are awesome dogs, had one for years. Her name was Sandy. Her only bad habit was jumping the fence and visiting neighbors...... :)

Australian shepherds are great dogs.I had a red-tri color Australian shepherd named Tina, she past away four years ago at the age of 14 years.
The darker colored dogs have brown eyes and the light color have a blue eye and a brown eye. They love water and were breeded to herd cattle, sheep...
They are very similar to Blue Healers, this dogs are very smart, loyal and protective.
I keep one of Tina's puppies and he now is 13 years old.He is name is roux.
He is half Austrailian shepherd and half pointer. He does not like cameras or guns.
Here is a picture of him.The old man still hanging in there..

Here's one of Jake, Doug he's a Blue Merle Sheltie I think he gets mixed up with the Australian Sheepdog which a lot of them are Merle's. He's right at the maximum for his breed for weight 28# and height 18", he's a big boy. Most of what you see below is fur which he's leaving a trail of all over the house right now.

Joe if you're reading this Jake's been 27-28#'s now for 6 months, don't think he's going to break 30 and his 2nd birthday is approaching so get yourself a nice crisp 5er ready.:-D

GSDs are AWESOME!

Thanks ramcharger. I think Inks new friend is awesome .

Australian Shepherds are excellent dogs. Really, really smart dogs. A very velcro type of dog. (They're actually from Kansas, btw). Snake is right, they like to be kept busy. Leave them to their own devices for too long and mischevious becomes their middle name. (Roo is a Dutch Shepherd/Cattle Dog).

I bet he gives you a run for the money.

Had an Aussie-Heeler mix at one time. Very smart and loyal. Had him when I moved to the country, and every time I got in the truck,he jumped in the back. (Over the tailgate) When I went to work,my wife at the time had to hold him. After about a week,he would walk me to the truck, then go back to the porch. First day off,I went to town, and he jumped in the truck. Came home,an hour later, got in the truck,so did he. Drove around for a little while, and came home again. Next time I went out,I put a tie on,like I was going to work, and he walked me to the truck, and went back to the porch. Thats a smart dog.
