Hey guys,

Just a quick hello from a new member in Brisbane, Australia. Joined yesterday after I stumbled across the site while researching my new purchase:

She's a '72 Plymouth Valiant Scamp, with a 2-barrel 318. The guy who bought it in California and imported it was told it was a 340 and never bothered to check, hence the 340 sticker on the bonnet. That's coming off.

It has had a fresh paint job (just a quick blow-over, but that's ok), a new interior and a major service since it arrived in Australia a little while ago. It seems like a good, straight car and I got it $hardly anything.

I paid the seller yesterday. Today it's at an engineer's getting the seatbelts changed to Australian-approved ones for compliance, should be able to pick it up and get cruising by Thursday this week!

I've got a long, sad history with classic cars - Mostly Australian model Fords like late 70's Fairlanes and Falcons, plus some GM products like Holden Kingswoods.

Most recently I built a '77 Ford F100 pickup from the ground up with a little stroker Cleveland etc, just to bomb around in while we were renovating the house. I sold it yesterday, which I'm still a bit sad about.

Still, it rocks to be a Mopar owner!

Look forward to learning more..

Welcome aboard! I want to see a few more pics. Interior and underhood...

Welcome to FABO from Southern California! You're going to have fun here. Lots of great people with a boatload of information for most any question you may have.
Nice looking Scamp! FYI, the person you bought it from must not know much about 340s because they never built a two-barrel version - all 340s had four-barrel carburetors except for the six-pack setups on the AAR 'Cudas and Challenger T/As.

Welcome VailantHardtop!!

Brisbane!? .... my daughter's going to school at Griffith University there in your beautiful country.

If you need anything just ask. The people on here are the best!!!

Thanks for all your posts, guys - Can't wait to pick the car up and start checking it over (and driving it!!) I'm in a bit of a weird frame of mind with it - Having had SO many Fords over the years, I know them basically inside out. Mopars are a total mystery to me!

All these things to check keep running through my head - Does the aircon work? What gauges were there in the dash? Where can I hide a stereo headunit? How the hell do you adjust timing when the distributor is at the wrong end of the motor??

I'll work it out eventually!

ocdart - Yeah, the guy I bought it from is a cool guy, loves his cars, but he's not a brand specialist - He had Mercury Cougars, Corvettes, Plymouths, Caddillacs, lots of different stuff in his back yard. Knows a little about everything but no details. He believed me when I said the motor wasn't a 340 and was good enough to pull the air con/alternator off to check the casting stamps. He was very embarassed when I pointed out the issue.

sscuda - I'm out at Griffith all the time with my job, and a lot of my friends studied there. What is she studying?

Thanks guys

Nick

Have seen some sweet Scamps/Swingers on this forum... I've got all sorts of ideas about dropping a 440 in there, relocating the springs etc etc... My wife would kill me though.

Hi, nice scamp
I'm in Kenmore if you need help with anything.
Looks like a nice clean car you've got.
Are you going to Mopar Sunday at willowbank on the 31st of July.
There will be a lot of Mopars there.

Cheers

Dave

Hey mate,

Definitely hoping to be at Mopar Sunday. I've been doing some freelance writing for car magazines, hoping to start putting an article together about my first Mopar experiences.

My website is http://columnshiftmedia.blogspot.com

I'm sure I'll have heaps of questions about how things work, so I'll probably be in touch!

Thanks

Nick

Oh lord, just downloaded the service manual linked in another thread. This is the motherload - Whoever took the time to scan that mother is a friend of mine!

G'Day Nick - and welcome to FABO.
Lots of good blokes on here - plenty of help and advice.
I think you'll love Mopars now you have one.
I have a '65 Mustang but the Barracuda is a better engineered car IMO
Enjoy your stay here and enjoy the Scamp - looks good.
Regards:salute:
