New SFI magnum Flex plate coming soon.

That is the correct way to get a current SFI rated flex plate for your Magnum application. Definitely nothing wrong with your plan.

You just cut out a small section of the zero balance plate.
The guy who sent the template also included the final weight of the plate in grams to verify if the amount removed was correct.

I don't have the 10241 for 904 trans to 360 with Magnum balance, so I cannot make a template for that smaller flex plate.
I have the 10242 for 727 trans to 360 with Magnum balance. I still have not verified if the larger 10242 will clear the starter on a 904 setup.

They are different, I know that much.
We haven't broken the stocker yet so we have time to figure something out! !

Bob I wonder why you couldn't use the 727 plate with the 904 transmission. I am using a 904 transmission with a 8 inch coan converter and have it bolted to the factory 360 magnum flex plate. I had to file out one bolt hole like you normally do. My 8 inch uses the 7/16 torque converter bolts. I have had my dakota running and didn't have in funny noises cranking the engine over etc. My friend had to cut the stock magnum flex plate when he had it, to clear his 727 torque converter. If you would send me a template for the 727. I am willing to try and see if it would work with my 904

I understand that the 904 plate is smaller, but by how much? Does anybody know

I can send you a template. I just don't have a 904 converter to try it on, so I cannot say it would work or not. Don't want to mislead anyone. I hope it works.
The 904 flex plates are smaller diameter. Don't remember how much smaller, but it's around half an inch to an inch.

Here is a 10239 for LA 360/904 on top of a 10242 for Magnum 360/727 on top of a factory 360 Magnum flex plate.
The 10242 has a slightly larger outside diameter than the factory Magnum flex pate, because it has the extra large bolt pattern available for the really big factory torque converter used with some 727 transmissions. I think it was a 11.75" or 12" diameter converter.
The 10242 has about 11.75" diameter. The 10239 has about 10.75" diameter. The 10239 should be the same diameter as the 10241, but I never had a 10241 to verify it.

So, if I'm getting this right, to put a 5.9 Magnum and a 904 together with a neutral balance converter I would need a 10230 and a template of a 10241?
Or, a converter with 5.9 Magnum weights and a 10230?

If you want to test it, you need a 10230 and template of a 10242, which is the same diameter. I can send you the template. Some say it will work ONLY if running the smaller Nippondenso starter and will NOT work with the older Chrysler starter.
I cannot verify it myself because I don't have a 904 torque converter.

An older chrysler starter wont fit a 904 with a factory magnum flexplate either.
Probably will run the factory magnum flexplate for now as we just want the trans back in the car.
But I would like to have a backup plan if the factory flexplate fails.
And I'm not sure the cutout shape of the larger B&M plate can be transferred to the smaller diameter one and have the balance turn out right.
Maybe I need to make a post looking for a 10241 for someone to make us a template of?

Bob I am willing to give it a try.

Wow glad I saw your post. I was going to try and order one. But sounds like they might end up being a scam?
