No compression on '79 318 cylinder 7

That looks like a lifter cup, like a bent pushrod beat the snot out of the retaining clip and oil pressure popped out the seat.

Sorry it's been a couple days. Been trying to figure out the magnum motors. Not for us. Can't get any answers answered and it's crazy hard to find brackets and such to switch it to a 360.

Yep toolman, you da man. Called it from the start!

Hah, still ran pretty good before I took it apart, if you believe that. Well, it ran good, bad, good, bad. Maybe sticking valve?

Yep Rusty, that sounds like a plan. If it's just a couple of lifters and rods. Test compression. sell it, with the history disclosed.

This looks like the top of a lifter plunger where the retaining clip popped out.

I've never seen pushrods bent like that, but that's what I was suspecting

Similar bends seem just a bit suspicious to me. Two stuck valves? ummm........maaaaybe.
Wondering if those two push rods were ever in the rocker sockets when installed.

That's an interesting theory and would certainly explain it.

Hah! You want to be more intrigued. The engine didn't run bad, just had a little lope to it. And the #3 cylinder with the bent push, it had 130psi on the compression test. Except for #7 which had no compression, everything else was 120. #3 sparkplug had soot and #7 had wet soot or oil. Just weird.

We definitely got the engine like that. Only put 20 miles on it to adjust the kickdown. After I got it on the road it would run good one day and be missing the next. Finally got around to a compression test and that told the story. That's when I asked for help.

And thank you guys for the help

Oh forgot, I'll check the lifters for that. Hopefully just need 2 rods a 2 lifters to get it sold. With full disclosure. I'll just direct them here...

Well of course the cylinders had compression. The intake valves were closed all the time. lol

No 7 had no compression. Which was weird and I asked about it but got no response. The push rod barely touched the intake valve at its apex. Was sure it was a stuck valve and almost pulled the head. Then thought I'd better ask you guys first. Also the oil was filthy after 20 miles.

If there's anyone in south central Alabama who wants this engine, it's yours. He can't even bring himself to sell it. Too much bad juju.

Too bad it ain't a slant 6. I'd come get it. If it was though, it'd still be runnin. lol

After a timing gear change my jeep 4.0 lasted 500,000. Still sold it for 1500. Love the 6's! Got a GMC 4.2 now

Oh yeah illahe that's old post and way too much trouble. I didn't even know a magnum wouldn't transfer parts. We got a rebuilt 360 so the parts will transfer. He's real happy and half the price. It was sweet though thinking about it.
