All the guys of my age ( im 29 ) or younger are not impressed by my 380 hp crate engine ( now 400+ hp due to porting etc ) they say that even the minivans have 80 hp less and the hellcats or gt500 have double of my hp , kinda sad that a 300 or 400 hp small block as no respect for the younger crowd...dont start saying that the 340 was strong with 275 hp they gonna laugh at your face ! :banghead:

ps: with the aggressive cam lobe that i have in my crate i almost have to say that i have 1000 hp because they ve seen to much of vin diesel with is black charger that does willies in the street and drives in the street like nothing .

Mopar crate engines are NOT impressive guy i know had a stroker 402 crate he couldn't get that "dog" out of the 12's in a '71 dart:wack::wack:

It is not always about how much hp you have but the correct combination of everything else that gives you better times

i have to 380 hp crates...ive read on internet that a lot of them had a bad reputation for the ones built in mexico for a while...but the one that i have and my friends as one too ... a 380 hp crate is only a 5.9 with a cam and changed valvesprings , i love it and with a 3000 pound duster its very powerfull if you can put the power down to the floor .

Typical naysayers, ignore them.

Have you asked some of them what classic car they own?

Most times that will shut some of them up. I have done that, when someone looks at my car, which isn't a beauty queen by any stretch and they start critiquing it, I just ask about theirs.

I usually get the deer in the headlights look.

i dont mind the stupid loving kids of civics with 90 hp ...its more the ones with the modern muscle car era ....the new engines makes a lot of power with small cubic inches like the ford 5.0 with 400+ more hp stock but man....having a muscle car , paying for it , repairing it ..paint , d.i.y , taking care of ....even to restore ...nothing is more important than respect for these old cars that survived trough time..

my cars are paid for and i will not sell them to buy a modern challenger/mustang/camaro for the wow factor .

If this lack of horse power or "wow factor" issue bothers you that much I suggest you talk to Tim at FHO. For a mere $40K he will ensure you get your "wow factor" back.

Please note that your gas mileage may suffer a bit though:D

Their cars have more go, but the classics are what their cars are literally trying to be and the simple fact is that, for a few more years anyway, they have belly button cars and you don't.

I always look at Horsepower generated per dollar spent. Who wouldn't love Hellcat money to throw at their 340 Duster? If you had thirty grand to invest in your drive train it would shut all of them up.

i can stroke it... supercharge it , turbocharge ...nitrous bla bla bla , but theyre will always be someone faster than you .. i like to have good driving and reliable cars , im not saying that i would never upgrade the powertrain for more hp but i dont think that im the king of the hill because a lot and lots of car can outran me in 2015

so what's this thread supposed to be about? If you want wow factor, to appease people, then spend money. Or blow them off, and enjoy your car just like it is.

it was because i was sad that the Young era was laughin at our big and small blocks specs ...compared to todays standards ..because a 3.6 caravan as more power than the legendary 340

Tell them the new stuff is measured in little horse powers,
and old stuff is measured in big horse powers.
Then take the pusses for a ride.

Most of those guys wouldn't know 400hp till it bites them in the ***.

Yeah, but how many of those guys are driving a Hellcat or GT500?

this the op has been listening to too many honda civic owners. **** why stop there? just go overseas and buy one of the 'beaver' fancy ugly italian imports. everybody thinks their fast

my car goes a little over 900 to the wheels and I have guy's turn up their noses and say "really? I thought it would make more power than that, I have a buddy with a honda civic that made 680 to the wheels", I tell them go get it and lets line em up, a few have come out and let me put bus lengths on them but most don't show up.

1. Take them for a ride as you hammer the gas pedal.
2. Let them drive the car with you in the passenger seat.

I have found that most of the people that I take for a ride and then let them drive my 1969 C-body or my A-body Duster have a different outlook after they drive them. They usually have a smile on their face when they are behind the wheel.

My youngest daughter grew up with modern machines. She saw a 1974 four door Dart that a friend of mine was selling and I bought it for her (this was after she got to ride in the Duster). It was a 318 car. One day she drove up to me and said "Dad, look what I can do!" and she did a one-legger burnout down the street. I wish I had a video of it and a photo of the smile on her face.

You do realize that '68 Charger had a lot of help pulling the front wheels? Watch closely the next time you watch that scene. There was a hydraulic arm coming down pushing the front of the car up. It's called "special effects" . And the motor in that Charger was just a mild mannered old 392 Hemi with an underdriven blower on it? It made a lot of noise, that's all. It couldn't pull the skin of rice pudding in reality.

Tell all your ricer friends those F & F shows are fake.

BTW..... I especially like their 10 stage, manually applied, nitrous oxide systems in those F&F shows. ...cracks me up every time.:D

Now, don't worry about what other kids say or don't say about your rides, enjoy them for what they are.....

"...there will always be someone faster than you..." words to live by.

Just ask them where their 600HP civics will be in 3 years...either on their 3rd motor or 2nd turbo or scrapped. Ask them where their civic will be in 40 years...Then ask them to tow a boat! I wouldnt worry about it. If you want a ego boost, just go to a Mopar show, youll get plenty of support. Its not all about the power, but the presentation too there.
