I have a 360 with a Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and Carter 625 AFB carburetor. I don't have a vacuum signal on the manifold port on the carburetor until I revv it a bit. And then I get 15" at 2500. I checked that the port is not clogged. The manifold is a dual plan and the cam has 60 degrees of overlap. So is this common?

My Slant Six has 18" of vacuum at idle.

The connection you sensing is above the butterflys, look for a port below the butterflys or come straight of the intake manifold.

I think Terry's right. Sounds like your hooking up to the port above the butterflies and that's for the vacuum advance. It doesn't have vacuum at idle. Only when you open the throttle some.

I was connected to the driver side (alleged full vacuum) port. When I checked it, it appeared to be a direct connection to the middle, bottom of the carb.

Hum.... I thought that should be full vacuum also and the ported one is the one on the pass. side but it's been several yrs. since I had a AFB. Have you tried the one on the pass. side just to see if it's full time vacuum?
