NY State's new license plate

WOW!! That looks a lot like the OLD timers!

What if you have a standard white plate? Can you get the new ones with your number on them, OR are you stuck unless you buy into a "vanity" plate?

According to reports this will be taking the place of the white plates at renewal. If you want your old number then you have to pay extra like when they made the switch from the Liberty plates to the Empire plates.

It's all about money there making us buy theses new plates @ $25.00 a set.

Last I heard, NY Gov. Paterson said the State may not charge extra for the new plates.

The report I read in the paper said that the state plans on making 129 million from the new plates and fees. AH the real reason for the new plates. All this is headed to state coffers to make up shortfalls.

Got that right, Buck. Even though the reports say the older plates reflectivity fade after about five years and that's the reason they're doing this the fact the state's broke and the extra 129M they're forcing us to pay doesn't have anything to do with it...anyone wanna bridge cheap?

Robert the state ran blue plates with gold lettering till 72 then went to gold background with blue letters. Late 70's plates are on trooper car you posted above. Early 60's plates where black background as I recall.

Thanks, Buck. Wasn't sure when the gold field and blue lettering came on board.

From purely an aesthetic standpoint, I like the new plate. It's retro like the PT Cruiser is retro- evokes a time period, but doesn't really resemble any specific thing. It's the hypocritical audacity of making up 'reasons', ie reflectivity degredation, to try to hide yet another tax that isn't a tax. To my fellow NYers- without pointing fingers at his disabilities, anybody besides me notice that our Govenor likes to target areas for revenue enhancement that don't affect his lifestyle? Did I miss any news articles about him volunteering to take a cut in pay?:-k

What area is that resembling? For those who aren't in the know the "new" NY plates run "retro" from the about the late '60s (earlier?) to the late '80s.

I'm not sure what years the Montana plates were originally blue with white letters but I have an old one from 1967 that is.

Sorry Brian I don't like the new plates. On second thought the might look ok on an old Nash Rambler. LOL

They'd look good on a certain '57 Chevy that's in my avatar...oh, wait, wasn't that a blue field with yellow lettering?

I still want to see the new trooper Chargers in the old Sunoco Special colors...no "stealth" dark blue. Put the yellow on 'em so we can really see 'em coming!

So I have a vanity plate that costs me $50 every 2 years.
If I want to keep it I need to pay $45.
Do I get a new 2 year registration?

My registration is up in April 2010.
If I turn in my plates, then get new vanity plates for 2 years it will cost me $50- so $5 spent as opposed to $45.
Is that correct?

Typically when new plates come out you get them when you renew your registration, this sounds like they are requiring everyone to get them whether you need to renew or not.

Thanks, Zach! As always your work looks good. The Charger in the old Sunoco Special colors? Sure, why not!
