Thinking of letting go of the best boat I have ever owned! 1972 classic century resorter 18 ft. Chrysler 300 hp 340ci mopar engine.. velvet drive inboard. Boat is in excellent all original condition. Motor freshened up 2 yrs ago. Basically re ringed bearings and gaskets. Also brand new exhaust manifolds. Edelbrock intake, Holley carb and msd ignition added. Seats 6 comfortably and even has a built in wine rack! Dual 3 inch exhaust roars and the boat will pull down a house! And or yank the arms off multiple skiers. Top speed in the high fiftys. This classic design has stayed since the wood resorters without the hassle of wood... I would never sell this its been my baby for years. But I bought a duckworth from a family member and I think I like it more??? Anyway I would sell for around 5k or I would also consider trading for a truck camper, trailer or an older c class. The boat is winterized at deer lake. I can get it on the water and show it for cash in hand buyers only! Or someone with a trade I want... I have no pictures so google or YouTube 1972 resorter. It is the burgundy hull with white top model. You will find many pics and videos of this model. It is reguarded as a fine colectable craft. I have seen some sell all day in the 5 figure range so I think my price is more than fair. Also since it has had a few thousand put into it in recent years.. I had a new snap on cover made also...txt or call for questions! I reserve the right to change my mind on selling. I know if I sell it I will regret it!!!
 
Not a bad price from what I see.

Got a different make sitting here in the yard, with a smaller engine. 23' '70 Penn Yan with a factory 318 4bbl. '68 casting numbers on everything.

What's interesting it's a true 318, not like the AHB engines, which were 318 short blocks with 360 upper ends. This is all 318 casting numbers.

That's the thing, it probably isn't a "drop in" in a car application. It may turn the opposite direction, may need different cam to work in a car, it may have different heads, would need to research it.

They not only made marine 340's, they made a few 440 "sixpack" marine engines, and MAY have made 340 sixpacks as well!!!

They also made RB wedges with inline dual quads

Maybe, maybe not. Usually single engine, single prop, boats were kept the same rotation.

Dual engine applications was usually one with a reverse rotation.

Yes, there are single prop reverse rotation, but in this case I'd almost guarantee to you it's not.

Usually what you saw was marine parts, bolt on. Different cooling systems that bolt the same, water cooled exhaust, and, of course Coast Guard approved starter, alt/generator, fire suppressing air cleaner, and marine carb.
 
Cool stuff. The ad says all are available with right or left hand rotation. Not that a guy wants to tear vintage boats apart on a regular basis, but it's good to know these engines are out there.
 
Generally, Chrysler V8 reverse rotation is easy to spot as they have a very tall adapter under the distributor. This contains thrust bearings to handle the reverse upward thrust that would otherwise be absorbed by the distributor due to the gear "turning backwards"

We got wrapped up in a mess in the late seventies---eighties at the parts house I worked for. A nice guy brought in a Ferd Y block marine, swapped it with the rebuilder for a long block. Put it in and could not get it running.

This guy spent a fair amount of time traveling, gone winter, etc, so it was a couple of years.............

He came in and asked me. Hell I didn't even KNOW the Y block firing order, LOL!! Told him I'd take a look.

Went over and jacked around (VC's were off) and got the no1 valves closed, and the timing marks "up" and got the distributor set...I THOUGHT

You guessed it..........original engine was reverse, the new one was normal. He got the right cam and changed it (I was not involved)

HERE IS THE KICKER..........The crank striations for the rear seal GO THE WRONG WAY!!! This means the poor dumb farmer who got the old boat engine (rebuilt enchange........) "always wondered" why the damn thing leaked oil!!!!

And I bet this boat did too!!!! Except this is a short season up here, it probably did not see enough run time to make much of a difference!!!
 
Those marine engines,300 hp as mentioned will make that power all day long. They will run wide open for hours and never skip a beat.
 
They do put Mopars in boats. I seen it. Back when Umlimited Hydroplanes still had pistons, Mission Bay. Yes Virginia, the Unlimiteds came to California. Rolls Royce Griffons and Allisons were the motors of choice. The Chrysler Crew, 2 blown injected Hemis. That's 16 zoomies :D what a sweet sound that was. Those boats were so stylish. Miss Budweiser, Pay n Pak, Miss Madison, Miss Notre Dame, Miss Bardahl, too much fun.
 
We rented a warehouse for a while to store our cars... One of the other shops nearby had a boat in the parking lot near our shop and we inspected it and found it had a mopar SB with a 4bbl, but we could not find if it was a 318 or 340...
 

The LD4B intake I installed on my 318 last year was off a marine 318. It had slightly different coolant fittings which didn't matter but the intake was in fantastic shape. It was installed new on the marine engine back in 1980 and only had 300 hours on it. It was almost a shame to paint blue when I upgraded to a 4bbl on mine since there were hardly any stains on the bare aluminium!
