Original 1973 duster untouched!

Well bought.

...and that proves "they are still out there".

Its not a rare car, I just get to skip all the rust repair and interior repair that most have to do. I've been without a duster since a buddy totaled mine 20 years ago that my father gave me. This one isn't going anywhere and I'm going to build it like I want

Maybe not rare, but too nicely original to heavily modify.
Your car, your money. But I'd keep and modify the slant as you see fit. But nothing that couldn't be put back to original. New seat cover to bring the interior back to stock appearing and new vinyl top. New wheels and tires and polish the factory paint.
Original factory appearance with 'day 2' modifications, then "WOW" the show spectators when you pop the hood and show a modified slant!
JMO that you didn't ask for.

i'd rip that boring *** slant out so fast your head would spin and swap a nice modern hemi or small block in that *****. be a much more fun car.

Start with a nice car, and your project is tons easier. I'd do something kinda "Sporty". Just something I saw online.....

brought this car home yesterday. Slant 6 disk brakes. 91000 original miles, last oil change at 88000 miles in 1999. Original bill of sale and a ton of maintenance records up until 1999. Found a little trash bin in it from New and in brochure. Car is what i consider unobtainium these days. Dash pad even looks like new. Vynil top is obviously shot, going to remove it and paint.

Purely Awesome !

Working on fixing the roof, probably going to end up repainting the whole car sooner than I thought. Only a little rust around the windshield where the top was welded on and some pitting on top
